    Talbo pickup system.....hum reduction unit?

I think we have an answer!!! Found this thread over at the Music Electronics Forum that shows one of the packages partially unwrapped. It is from an 82 Tokai Strat so it appears that these were not just restricted to Talbos but just to the era appx 1982 to 1985...

    Talbo pickup system.....hum reduction unit?

It doesnt seem to increase gain or sustain and is connected to all 3 pickups so I am assuming it is not a sustainer type circuit. I have seen this unit on every 80's Talbo I have opened up. All of these were of the strat pickup configuration. They all have the 3 pickup wires going in to the...

    Talbo pickup system.....hum reduction unit?

The leads for the single coil pickups in my Talbo go into a taped up cylinder (about 1 1/2" (38mm) diameter) before going to the volume/tone controls. I have seen them in Talbos but no other Tokais. Does anyone know what this unit is? Is this some sort of hum-reduction unit? Has anyone seen...

Anyone shipped guitars international from the UK

The deal fell through but thanks anyway guys. BTW I ended up getting a similar guitar from Germany which ended up getting sent by DHL. I thought it was the international couriers but I believe DHL is the German national postal company as well. It ended up costing only 53 euros and got here...

    Gaban Electrics (1973 Tokai Catalogue)

I had never seen that 73 catalog before. I see exactly what you are saying Ian....the Gaban was in all probability the forerunner of the Tokai. I dont know whether it is the same factory though as the FLG-650 looks awfully like a '73 Ibanez. It has those Ibanez style pickups and even throws...

    Gaban Electrics (1973 Tokai Catalogue)

I have some photos in a Japanese book showing two Gaban Les Paul deluxe copies. Both have glued in necks and actually have Les Paul in exact gibson script on the headstock. I believe the Gaban was chosen because it looks just like Gibson.....same G same n at the end. One even has a flamed...

Tokai Mat Guitars - Any Info?

I think the MATs are truly unique. In a world of ash/alder bodied strats they make a needed/pleasant change. They are made from fibreglass/plastic/resin material NOT wood and sound very resonant....you almost think they are semi-acoustic. (It actually has a very faint fibreglass type smell...

    Tokai LR with fastest neck?

I am not real keen about that "fastest neck" term either. It is really what is right for you. But I will say that the fret height, fretboard radius and neck shape on my circa 85-86 "original" Tokais are absolutely perfect for me!!! These guitars play effortlessly and bends are heaven. My...

    Tokai believer

Getting six identical guitars for a special order doesnt sound that bad......then you realise that everyones ideal Les Paul will have something different. Mine is: a. Huge one piece quartersawn mahogany neck b. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard c. Rift sawn eastern maple top (dont really...

Anyone shipped guitars international from the UK

Hi Guys, I am looking at buying a guitar from the UK and the buyer has asked me to look into shipping. Hell....I dont even know where Banbury UK is, never mind who to ship it with. Any recommendations? Do UK mail or postage services ship guitars down under? What is the UK mail service called...

Dazed and Confused over my Love Rocks??

DaVid, IMO the photo of the LS-80 pickup route shows that the maple top is made from two pieces of maple that are NOT book matched. The maple boards have the grain lines running at different angles and spacing so are definitely not bookmatched. The LS-80 flame top however is close to...

Who made the most faithful repros of LPs and Strats?

I played a few Edwards recently in Tokyo and they were all stated as being made in japan. They make an amazing Jimmy Page Les Paul lookalike model with a worn nitro top coat. The top of the range ESP guitars are called Navigator and are up there with the Tokai LS320 (if not better) and I...

    LS1XX SEB - New series

Gotta say that the Sound Stream method with the mahogany center sounds very interesting! You really have got to give Tokai the thumbs up for creating something different, interesting and innovative. First carbon fibre, FRP and aluminium bodies and now SEB! Thank goodness for something...

    LS1XX SEB - New series

If they're 120,000+ Yen, I hope they'd be Japanese I see your point. Well I hope so too but is the 120000 yen the final or REAL price? I dont know how it works in Japan. In Australia you have retail price and then you have the cash/REAL price. You can get up to 10% to 40% off the retail on...

    LS1XX SEB - New series

I always thought those Gibson pancake bodies were just a cost cutting exercise. I never thought Gibson introduced it for sound enhancement but I could be proven wrong. My experience was that the pancake bodies were generally heavier and did not sound any better. I believe that Les Pauls with...

Tokai shops in Tokyo or Sapporo

Daizo-san, Thank you very much for your kind offer. My plans have to fit around a lot of other non-guitarists in the tour group so it may be hard to schedule but I will email you tonight to discuss. Thank you again Pete
