1984 Tokai TST-80 refin: back from the dead!

exactly like mine. That's the 1st Strat wich rings and sustains like that! Even unplugged, she sounds full and woody... 8) ... and i love that "D" shaped neck, slightly wider and flatter than other Springy & Goldstar "C" necks

Hi all Tokai lovers! a few years ago, i bought this nice guitar from Japan, but she was in poor condition: scratched body paint, worn frets. nonetheless, she sounded amazing and ringed like no other strat i used to have before this (Fender strat standard us, a Silverstar & another Goldstar)...

Post your Tokai bass pics, please!

TOKAI spaghetti logo changed approximately in 1983 for this block design. So you have the same bass model from two different years: a 1983 and a 1984-85 jazz sound! :P The block logo was used only one year, and they are quite rare compared to the 1984 logo.

Flamey Candy Apple Red Hard Puncher

yeah, that maple is beautiful! :P frequently, you can find that kind of neck on the low specs model from the early 80's. I had a 1985 black goldstar with a lovely flamed maple, even if it was a TST-50!

thanks Andy. i imported this bass a month ago from Japan. It was a nice deal! 8) The JB-85 FL was available in 3 colors: Yellow sunburst, metallic red and blond like this one. it was listed in that german catalog from the early 80's: http://www.tokairegistry.com/images/catalogs/oldies_p6.jpg...

My new toy: 1982 Tokai JB-85 FL BL: you don't see a lot of this! Lightweight, with a tight sound. This is my 1st fretless, but the neck is really a dream to play: thin profile, smooth lacquer feeling and a beautiful rosewood (or Jacaranda?:o ) fretboard. The see through blond...

Congratulations, Your Strat is beautiful! :D I dig that golden sunburst and the flamed maple. I have the same pickup in my '84 goldstar TST-80. They sound really good and are very rare. You don't see alot of these VS-1 Tokai Strat. I guess that your guitar is a keeper!

The Goldstar ST 80 has landed!

congratulations Gabe! that's really a steal for a 80 in that condition! i paid mine almost the same price, but it needs a new fret job and body paint. but i think that's really the same guitar as mine: slab fretboard, 2 pieces lightweight alder body, black bottom dimarzio VS1 pickup, "D" shape...

TST100 help please - It's all mine, And the nitro verdict...

i had a 1981 silverstar with a sen body that i sold to buy the TST80, and i can certify you that's not the same wood! sen has tighted grain and has shiny reflects. nevertheless, the two guitars are very lightweight, both near 3.1-3.2 kgs with an acousticly nice tone! My fernandes RJB75 also has...

TST100 help please - It's all mine, And the nitro verdict...

that's not ash or sen. i think that's alder because of similarities with my PB80 and the '84 tokai catalog: http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-and-amp/tokai/1984/en_05.html moreover, ash is usually a heavy wood (think about 70's fender in opposite of the 60's alder body). Sen is a...

TST100 help please - It's all mine, And the nitro verdict...

the black&white wiring on my TST80 is cloth covered on pots, and plastic covered on pickups. it seems to be the stock wiring, except the middle pickup tone pot. so "E" pickup (grey bottom) & DiMarzio VS-1 (black bottom) aren't the same model? Who made the "E" pickup? Gotoh?

TST100 help please - It's all mine, And the nitro verdict...

i think you're right about the black bottom pickup: if you look at the '84 catalog, TST100 & TST80 have DiMarzio VS-1! http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-and-amp/tokai/1984/en_05.html some pictures of the pickup: http://www.caparisonforum.com/pickups.php
