Mystery partscaster, possibly partly Tokai -- any thoughts?

Thanks. Does that include the pickups, or are they later replacements? Out of interest, what are the identifying features?

OK, here are some photos of the neck pocket and control cavity: [/img]

I should've taken some pix when I had the scratchplate off. Oh well. Next time I change the strings I'll take a peek.

Mystery partscaster, possibly partly Tokai -- any thoughts?

I took a punt on eBay last week and ended up with this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201829025650 As I suspected, it is a pretty decent guitar, albeit absolutely filthy! But I'm curious as to whether there is any way of verifying that the body comes from a Tokai. The neck is Warmoth, very flat...

    THE BLIND TEST ENDED

Interesting idea! No idea which is which, but it sounds to me as though #1 and #3 are the same guitar (albeit out of tune on #3). That's the one I like the least. I think #4 probably just wins for me.

VHT Amps - Anyone played through the new stuff ?

I was mucking about the Special 6 combo yesterday and quite liked it. Unlike Dave_Mc I didn't have a problem with background noise -- in fact, for a single-ended combo, I thought it was pretty quiet. Certainly quieter than my Vibrochamp or the EL84-based 5W amp I have. Other than that I'd...

1 watt valve head, hand made , marshall sound

Nice! I'm interested. Can you tell me a little more about it? Is it a kit, or did you design it yourself? What tubes?

    Bargain, almost.

oh, my bad, hadn't seen it before. Given what he's asking for his other items, I suspect the seller would be asking a lot more if he didn't know it wasn't original.

    Bargain, almost.

This has been mis-listed in the Vintage Electronics category. "not totaly sure if the body is original" any takers? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180484570602

    Seventies Epiphone Japanese guitars

That's the bird. Mine doesn't have the crescent E logos on the pickguard though. Amazingly, it does still have the original tremolo arm. It also has a strange switch that adds bass (or cuts it in the other position, I'm not sure). Fun guitar, anyways.

    Seventies Epiphone Japanese guitars

hi all, I just picked up an Epiphone ET-270 out of curiosity, and because it was cheap. I know nothing about their Japanese guitars from the Seventies but I like this a lot. It has a Les Paul style neck bolted to something that looks a bit Strat-like, with two P90s(?) and a roller-saddle bridge...

    Fernandes Burny Custom strat-a-like

Saw one of these in a local pawn shop yesterday. Black Strat copy, writing on the headstock says Fernandes Burny Custom FST60. Serial number 40886 (I think) stamped into the fretboard. Rear of the trem block says STC Made in Japan. Anyone know anything about these? Is it worth the ?200 (UK)...

ricky copy - is it a tokai ?

hehe. I was always put off by that hideous pink fireglo colour that all Rickys seem to have. But surely they at least use solid wood and not ply for their solidbodies? Guitar came strung with .009s, I broke one and decided to replace the lot with .011s. It's a lot more playable now, at least...

ricky copy - is it a tokai ?

Hmm. Got the guitar yesterday. If it is a Tokai, it's not in the same league as their Strat and Tele copies. Neck is pretty good but the body is plywood and the hardware feels fairly cheap. Looks nice from a distance, though! I haven't yet found anything that might be a serial number or other...

ricky copy - is it a tokai ?

Well, I couldn't resist! Any ideas on how it might be possible to tell whether this *is* a Tokai or not? I guess it should be with me later this week.
