    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

A quick update - I got the SG75 back from a fret dress as it was chocking out in a number of areas. Its SO good now, I am again really pleased with my latest member of the Tokai fold. Wonderful neck, great superb vibe and feel. I just ordered a set of unpotted Bare Knuckle 57 PAF style pickups...

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

Thanks so much for all your help. After playing it cor a good few hours through a combination of Marshall heads I own, it conclude the picks are ‘good enough’ but they don’t have enough clarity and bite. I’m going to replace them. My 1987x is very revealing and they sound a bit spongey on the...

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

You’re right - after careful examination today I can see a very subtle lacquer line - it a two piece but the blend is so good, it looks like one piece

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

The back has no definite split, but if I study the lacquer. Nothing in the cavity… I don’t understand these two screws, the lacquer seems to suggest a different tail piece has been fitted at some point as it’s made a square impression. Treble pot is CTS branded, the others are not...

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

It’s so hard to tell if it’s one or two piece, I’ve been studying it for a while this evening and I’m still not sure!

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

I will check. I’ll change strings and take some pics of the pickups / cavity and controls. It’s sounds really loud acoustically and has such a superb neck. I’ll be stoked if it’s a premium series guitar. I have the P90 version of this bought in 2004, a USG-P90 and it’s got a D-shape, which is...

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

Many thanks - it’s weirdly got one CTS pot, the other ones don’t seem to be the same make. I’ll check the neck cavity and report back. I wonder if it’s an SG-155 then?

    Tokai SG of Unknown Model

I bought a Tokai SG yesterday. Seller didn’t know the model, Made in Japan, 2007. It’s got a fabulous vintage C neck, one piece body, Gotoh pickups, F and R stickers on them. I thought it was an SG 75 from the catalogue entry for that year, then inside the case I find a neck sales ticket that...

    ES100 - Do I Need New Tuners?

Thanks for that. I think I need to get a new set on there. I have also noticed that with the 'top wrapping' it also causes the sound to get rather rattly, like string buzz. Is this normal for top wrapping? I had the rewiring done by a tech, he put a set of Rotosound strings that came free...

    ES100 - Do I Need New Tuners?

I have this delightful ES100 from 2001 which badly needed some TLC. I am on a mission to get this to the level it deserves. Its got a '59 neck (which was hard to find believe me) and I have a synergy with it, as it plays beautifully. After failing electronics prompted a cash injection, I put...

    Tokai Les Paul Custom ‘Lite’?

I’ve come across a Les Paul Custom Lite in Japan but thought I would ask about it here in the forum. It’s just over 3kg, and I wondered whether these are sought after guitars or a bit of an odd ball? As if I need another Les Paul... haha - GAS addict

This place used to be buzzing...

Ok perhaps not as strong a word as demise, down turn perhaps. What saddens me the most all the Photobucket image blurring, removing so much of the visual elements of these useful posts...

This place used to be buzzing...

It’s a wealth of knowledge indeed. I just feel sad that any of my posts seem to take days to any response. Other people’s posts are the same.. there was always so much buzz with a lot of posts every day to help me learn more. I own 3 x pre 1980 Reborns, a 2002 ES100, a USG90, I love them all and...

I have been sitting on an ES100

It doesn't sound any worse than any other guitar unplugged, just different as its a hollow body. I have put the pictures of the original pickups, I cant tell what they are other than stock Tokai's. Interesting point about going lower rather than higher output.

I have been sitting on an ES100

I appreciate the point, its nothing to do with string age
