    Tokai E stamped Strat pickups?

The E pickups are very "not bad!" In their day, they were probably right up there with the better vintage-style strat pickups around in that time period. Nowadays, of course, we live in a very good era as far as vintage-style pickups are concerned; lots of great winders all making great...

Bridge with a steel block for a ST-80?

Of course, there are good ones and bad ones from any era! I do feel that my background has given me some perspective on what separates a solid instrument from a good one from a great one, though. I am a full-time professional player, but I also own 22 guitars and have been buying vintage...

Bridge with a steel block for a ST-80?

It just sounds better and is more inspiring to play. I'm not sure how to really describe it better than that. I haven't gone through a scientific assessment of substituting each and every part. I suspect that wouldn't prove fruitful anyway, because a guitar is a whole. Though made up of...

Bridge with a steel block for a ST-80?

I have an ST-80 as well. It's a great guitar. The original block on mine was brass, which is "not bad." I'd rather that than the zinc/pot metal stuff that most regular-line Fenders have now. I ended up putting a Callaham bridge assembly on mine. I do feel like it made a dramatic improvement in...

Fender or Boutique comparisons to E series pickups

YES. The pots in my ST-80 were the same. I changed them yesterday. The tone pots were 140k and 160k, and the volume was a scant 120k(!) :o Got some nice CTS pots, the 'special' run made for Mojo Musical Supply, and a vintage Sprague Vitamin Q in there. Can't report on the improvement on...

ATTENTION Springy, Breezy and Silverstar owners

OK well here's mine. I bought it from a guy who had 2 Springys, both in black, one with rosewood and one with maple (mine) and I would not be surprised at all if the necks and bodies got swapped around at some point. But I guess that's always true with guitars that are 30 years old, you just...

FS Vintage 60s Kalamazoo (Gibson) solidbody! $350 US shipped

I have decided to sell this guitar. My Riviera needs frets! I'm motivated to sell to someone here. Ebay has been steadily going up on their fees lately, so rather than giving them a bunch, I'd rather just sell stuff for less to real players directly. This is a cool guitar, it's made in the...

    APB-64 bass

Does anyone know how the APB-64 fits in the yen price structure? Since it's not a multiple of 5 then I assume it was a flagship model (like the TST-62, etc). Is this a correct or incorrect assumption? Does anyone know? Thanks! Long time away from the site but things look about the same here.

    Breezysound TE-50

hey. Really hard to tell about the finish in the auction pics because the lighting is weird. I don't really know what else to say beyond that, except that I'm no tele expert but have owned a few Tokai strats. I had a TST-56. equal to my ST-80 in every way except poly finish vs. lacquer, and I...

    Breezysound TE-50

lacquer makes a big difference on how the neck feels. THe pickups make a very noticable difference on the sound in my opinion. A lacquer finish will also age better... a poly finish sort of hermetically seals a guitar and leaves it "frozen in time" as it was from the factory.

    Breezysound TE-50

Kenny, welcome. Be advised that the TE-80 will be a somewhat higher quality guitar than the TE-50. You may already know this, but the model number is the list price for that year (which reflects in the quality). TE-80 = 80,000 yen, and TE-50 = 50,000 yen. I dont have much experience with the...

    I hate Guitar Center!

Thanks! I have another anti-guitar center story. I have a late '67 Twin Reverb (silverface, drip edge, AB763 circuit) with an anvil ATA case. At the local GC there is a brown super that someone has painted black, terrible shape... the back panels are home-made out of masonite (seriously!!!)...

So which amp is your favorite?

65 deluxe non-reverb model plus '64 outboard stand-alone fender reverb unit is my rig these days. Awesome. I like the tone better than any blackface deluxe reverb i've tried actually :D

    I hate Guitar Center!

got the epi back today! James Millinchuk up here in NJ is a miracle worker. Sounds and plays exactly as I remembered it... he touched up the color and drop-filled the lacquer and you really have to look for the cracks to see them. I'm totally happy.

    I hate Guitar Center!

totally the best. No question. :D There is nothing, and I repeat NOTHING like having a REAL player with good taste working on your amps. He knows what they're supposed to sound like so he can make it happen. The technical know-how of old tube amps isn't that hard... but you have to know...

    I hate Guitar Center!

i bought my 1965 fender deluxe at the guitar center on 75. This was about a year and a half ago and I paid I think $850 for it... not bad. It is the non-reverb model and it had been there for a while and I think they were just ready to let it go. I got it home and it started popping...
