    1984 Goldstar in Wembley

Saw an '84 Goldstar at Wembley guitar centre for just under ?500!! It's been seriously monkeyed with. Scratch plate and body routed (badly) to accept a humbucker at the bridge. One tone control removed and volume moved into it's place (leaving a hole where the vol was). Either LPB or Teal finish...

    Shell Pink

Anyone ever see a shell pink springy? The one in question smells a bit fishy to me (oh there's kind of a pun there too). Body radiusing is a bit too square, so I suspect it's just some springy parts thrown together. Still who knows?

    Some words of wisdom.

Having recently purchased a stunning new rosewood board neck with a sort of flamey/quilt AND birdseyes for my bitsa strat copy I thought I might share a tip with you all. I carefully followed the 'Rule Of Threes'; ie three mist coats of lacquer followed by a rub back, followed by three more...

    geniune tokai parts

Been given a 'fenderised' Goldstar Sound by a mate. The bridge saddles, neck plate and headstock decal have been subbed for Fender parts, but I want to get it back to Tokai status. Where can I buy tokai saddles? I guess the neck plate will have to stay non original and I can get a shonky decal...

    One for the tech heads.

I've built up a Strat copy from salvaged parts (not a tokai, but I've got a Tokai sticker on it!). The body is 2 piece alder, and the neck is a slab rosewood board type. Having listened to dozens of rosewood board strats played acoustically mine just doesn't sound right. It's way brighter than...

Your favourite piece of guitar music.

Think about your favourite piece of guitar music (I mean your absolute couldn't live without it, desert island must have favourite.) What guitar was it played on? Mine's the opening to Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix), and it's a Strat (natch). I reckon more than 50% of my favourite stuff is on a...

    mustang

Have Tokai ever made a copy of the Fender Mustang? Have any of the 'student' guitars been copied (ie musicmaster, duosonic etc). Given the price of these guitars as vintage this may be a moot question, but I'd be interested to know.

    Public Service Announcement

I have just fitted a mini switch to my Strat which allows me to use neck and bridge pickups together or have all three pickups on at once. All three ain't 'all that', but bridge and neck together is soemthing which once heard you'll wonder why it doesn't come as standard. It sure sounds purdy...

    Strat V Tele

Jimi Hendrix famously once said 'The Telecaster only has 2 sounds.......... and both of them are bad.' Discuss. Points will be awarded for style and aggression of arguments.

    Cats Eyes Acoustics

Just saw some new acoustics at The Guitar Centre in Wembley. They look the absolute nuts, but unfortunately they had similar shaped Martins to try out at the same time. Although the Cats eyes (000-15 type) was a bit more ornate than the Martin it was pretty disappointing sound wise. Still I...

    Interesting trem for sale

Washburn Wonderbar for sale. Interesting in that it gets around the Floyd Rose patent for locking trems. Can fit directly to any flat top guitar without any routing. Ideal if you want to ruin a perfectly good tele. Locking nut and all parts included. Reply here for more info if you're...

Guitar Finishing. N/C versus PU. Who's side are you on?

I've just had a bit of a rant about peoples preconceptions about the type of lacquer used on a guitar, and I'm interested to see what other people think. For my part I do not believe that the type of lacquer makes any hint of a perceivable difference in tone on a solid body electric guitar. But...

    Hard Puncher in Essex

Saw a Hard Puncher Bass for sale in Peach Ideas (Braintree Essex). From memory it is in natural with black scratch plate. Proper fender shape headstock. I think it was about ?200 -?300.

How to distinguish between Korean Breezy and Jap?

Well there it is. I'm not sure if I can be more specific, but if anyone has any ideas on how I can tell the difference between the Korean and Jap Breezys I'd be obliged. I am looking at buying a new one and the guy assures me that it's Japanese. The cost is 399 GBP, but there's no distinguishing...

    want strat pickups

I need some new pickups for my goldstar sound. Don't have to be tokai, anything will do. I'm on a bit of a budget. Contact [email protected].

    love rock 'pre - loved'?

Looking to get hold of a loverock, I'm not really fussy about colours or cosmetics, just something pretty basic with decent tone. What can I expect to pay in the UK for a second had one? Bit of a vague question I know, but given that some guy is asking $1295 for one I'm not sure if I can afford one.

    so what's the difference?

Can somebody tell me what the difference between a springysound and a goldstar sound is? I thought they were both strat type guitars. I'm sure I'm being stupid but I'm pretty new to the whole Tokai phenomenon.

    decals

My guitar is a bit on the tatty side and needs prettying up a bit, not least because some idiot has sanded the headstock clean. Does anybody know of anywhere that I can buy replacement decals from? Not cool to make old guitars look like new I know, but it has been so abused for the past 10 years...
