NGD 1984 Tokai SS-38 closet queen

Scored this on Yahoo Japan a few weeks ago. It was the filthiest guitar I have ever seen. Took it all apart and gave it a good wipedown with Barkeeper's Friend and then Naptha. I thought is was all original but after getting home I noticed the pickguard is not black but mirror. Checkout the...

Where is the evidence? The only way to prove you are correct would be to buy a Tokai model ask for upgrades and wait to see what sticker they put on the neck when it shows up! Making a statement does not make it fact. Tokai says they don;t change the sticker. You say they do. Why...

I'm not hung up on the model number. You are saying one thing and Tokai is saying another. One of you is wrong. i don't have enough inforamtion to gauge who is correct

Hello Raymond, It seems that the guitar was sold around 1981 and we did not know how we priced for the custom models at that time. We need to find the old record. Right now we do not change the model number for custom models. We just put another letter(s) like "C" of Custome, "S" of Special...

There is a 1982 catalog with all the upgrades, but I can't read japanese. I could care less what the model number is. My main concern was the odd headstock which no one could identify. Which is hilarious because everyone knows my model number but no one has seen the logo. It's obviously an...

In 1982 when the catalog came out, the highest model Silver Star was an SS80. But with painted neck and rosewood and a pickup upgrade and a bridge upgrade or any upgrade available could concievably make this an SS100 or SS120 And they would go out of their way to make a special sticker for that?

Yes, but those odd numbers are also in the catalogs. You can buy a model ST55 right off the shelf. your statement implies that an odd number means it is a custom order and that is not entirely true.

I'm asking this again but you did not answer the first time. So, I'm in Japan and I go into a guitar store and I don't give a **** what year it is this time. I peruse the Tokai catalog and find my dream guitar. We'll say its an SS60. But I want upgrade X and it costs 12000 yen. When my...

I'm tired of uploading everything to google. another forum has a photo of a page that shows ss38- ss50 all use the same "Fender Style" tuners, shows the body material and available colors as well. [/img]

According to the catalog the black pickguard makes it an SS48 with SS super pups. An SS38 would have the SS hot pickups. What about the rosewood? That has to be an upgrade as well? You're saying that if in 1980 I was in Japan and asked for an SS36 with upgrades that they would put a 48...

I'm not going to take it apart again to see the cavities. I already posted the marked cavity. There is no serial number anywhere on the guitar. Not in any cavity, not on the headstock, not on the fretboard, not in the tremolo cavity not on the neck plate. It is non existent. It has the...

i just found this pic online. A Silver Star with a Springy Logo on top? If you look closely you can see the large font " STAR" under "sound". Looks like they were interchanging parts between models back then...

The neck stamp clearly says ss48. The pickups are the SS Hots as denoted by the black bobbins and he blue/black leads. The fingerboard is rosewood NOT baked maple https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ayrENoPhQ620_H13Q59ChSIiwZ22ooMQ...

I know what model it is. I just want to know what year it is. There is no serial under Tokai, no serial on neckplate, nothing on the fretboard. And according to the internet, this logo does not exist. The only writing in the guitar is this weird stamp which may be the date.... 4=7B8 or...

Hi Guys, newbie to the forum. This photo is from a Silver Star ss48 according to the neck sticker. What i don't understand is why I can't find this style. It looks like the springy sound logo exactly, except it says silver star. Same size writing, no serial under Tokai but it has the...
