If you're asking if any Tokai is a "Crappy Guitar", I think you're on the wrong forum :) Seriously, apart from the standard pickups, the ST40's are every bit as good to play as the higher models. It seems that you don't have standard ST40 pickuos so this is very very far from a crappy guitar. A good...

If it's a 1980, it will have a model number stamp on the last fret of the fingerboard. The logo will be spaghetti type, and the serial number will be on the headstock and start with a 0. Otherwise, it will be a very faithful replica of the 70's strat: 3 bolt neck, large headstock, cast (not pressed)...

To me, this looks like an ST40 due to the tuners. The pickups have confused me - they have no stamp! The only ones I've seen like this are from Silverstars. However, it's also possible the pickups are not Tokai, but another grey-bottomed make. The standard pickups on ST40s would be ceramic, and many...

I have no idea about the pickups, but this looks to me to be a 90's AST-50.

How come? The only things I see wrong are the saddles and the body which looks butchered and refinished. Presumably the pickguard will also be a replacement.

I love restoration threads like this. A very tidy job on the routing and prep! Nicely done! ANd nice to see it closer to its former glory after the pickup butchering. I find the foam polishing pads from companies like Maguires (used for automotive detailing) along with T-cut are very good for bringi...

Apparently I'm a "twat" and a "pathetic smeghead".

I'd really like to meet this guy and see if he'd like to say it to my face.

What an arsehole.

great guitar. :D
I thought the jury was out on that one. It had Kluson type tuners and no evidence of holes from ST40 tuner types

Silverstars are undervalued in my opinion. You can get 1970's spaghetti examples for up to ?100 less than 1980's goldies. Better bang per buck if you just want a great guitar.

There should be a stamp on the last fret telling you which model it is.
