It's also striking that probably most were of Mexican origin (not just the looks but also the names). Probably should get a MIM strat for historic accuracy. :)

Fender factory in 1959 (or earlier)

Cool youtube video in case you haven't seen it yet. Gives you a new perspective on the reverence with which these instruments are now treated.

ok....i understand what you're saying but i'd imagine it would very difficult to get a sunburst finish from an off white finish????? Starting around 1963 (or 64) the middle section of the burst is pretty much solid yellow, so it's not like you see the wood grain any longer like on 50s strats. From ...

Undetermined model and too "obscure" for the risk of buying it... That describes most vintage Navigator. :) I often take the risk, but sometimes you get stuck with a guitar you regret buying (narrow nut, poly coating, etc.). That's the advantage of Tokai and Greco, where you know much more what you...

I think its in Japan right now. Don't worry, i'm not about to cut anyone's grass on it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-ESP-OLDIE-54s-Stratocaster-1-piece-ash-body-Navigator-Japan-Vintage-MIJ-/350841561415?pt=Guitar&hash=item51afc96147 Thanks, tempting, even though I'm in the middle of a big purge. :)...

Wow, if that's for sale and you're not getting it, let me know. I'll be in Belgium too soon. It'll basically be the same as a Navigator, and looking at the logo, I would guess from the 1980s. I'll say that that decal looks very amateurish, like it was a one-off typeset by hand. Not that it would bot...

Mine is a great, great guitar, except for the narrow nut (probably 1 5/8 like the late sixties' Gibsons). I have a 1981 Tokai ES-150 too and much prefer the Navi for tone. That's not a general statement but just between those two guitars, for me.

I'm interested in how this turns out when you forward these messages to dear old PayPal. They vindicate your position so you ought to get the money returned to your account. But... Same here, although the past few weeks I've been doing a good job of buying more guitars I don't need. :D As an aside, I seem to get lucky with those hacked up Tokais. It does knock the price down, but as far as tone is concerned I love these two. I also remember reading that those circa 1990 Strats...

Sure, Europe is a bit more expensive and I also accept that you pay a bit more with a dealer for better assortment, good photos, peace of mind... I bought two in the last year though, one at 800 euros (from a "forum bro" in Europe), the other for 54,000 Yen BIN on YJ, and was offered another one for...

That seller is full of the brown stuff. Other than the delusional price, if you look closely, that guitar isn't in NOS condition either. It has several minor nicks and scratches consistent with light use. 1,500 would be pushing it, and with a tiny bit of patience you can get these for USD 1,0...

I'm still in two minds about whether I should have done that or not since I like the traditional look too, but it certainly is more comfortable!
