Sorry to say it, but I really don't think that that is a geniune Tokai bass :( . The "Goldstar Sound" logo was designed to go on Tokai's (Fender) Stratocaster guitar copies, whereas the Precision Bass copies were (always?) called "Hard Puncher" basses. "Goldstar Sound" basses are certainly new to me...

Wow! That's really in beautiful condition, Wojtek - much, much nicer than my white one  . The photos are really clear and sharp too - well done ! :) You asked about the pickguard!? Well, yes, a Fender '62 Jazz Bass Reissue one will fit very well, but you probably find that 3 or 4 of the holes ...

It's extremely hard to say that that is a geniune Tokai Jazz Sound, but it's actually fairly easy to say that there is nothing (not already mentioned by the seller) which screams "FAKAI" at me :-? . One way that you can be sure that you're looking at a fake Tokai is when you see a 'slab board' rosew...

I'm tempted to get one of those myself, in case I ever build that '70s FrankenJazz Bass that I've been pro...

Which parts of this Jazz Sound are actually Tokai parts?
This is really none of my business, as I have no intention of bidding on it, but I think that it's a responsible thing to do to open up a debate on this item. People are already bidding on it, but I really have my doubts that it will be worth the final price :-? . http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tokai-Jazz-Ba...

I can admire the photography, but I'm afraid that I can't supply any input into the details of this particular model :( . I notice that the hardware (bridge, pickup and tuners) is very similar to (although certainly different to) the stuff used by the Matsumoko factory on the Westone brand of basses...

Anyone...? Apart from the obviously fake logo, the tuners are 'modern' Gotoh replicas, with the higher gear ratio - I've never seen those on a Jap Tokai before :-? . The electronics look pretty authentic to me, though. Personally, I would walk away from it and wait for a clearly 100% genuine Tokai,...

Re: Jazz Sound JB45 Project (with pics).
Hello Everyone. New on here and looking for some advice please. ... I was slightly shocked to see mini pots for the volume controls so I am guessing these are replacements? I may change these even if these are originals. Would 250k Log be the ones to go for? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/B...

You're right, it's a genuine relic, & none the worse for that. I think Blue Suede continued to import Tokais to the UK till the late 80s. I get the impression that we may be better off than the rest of Europe with regard to the number of these babies that reached our shores. Which can't be a bad th...

It all depends on what you're comparing these '80s Tokai basses to, IMHO :-? . Considering that the "Jazz Sounds" were built to mimic the sound, look and feel of a 20 year (1964 model) Fender Jazz, and considering that these basses have now aged to be an average of 25 years old since then, you're re...

Beautiful basses!!! Congratulations! Red one is great! I have exactly the same Tokai like your first - cream-one. Also without L - letter on a neckplate. It's also very lightweight. It's sound so good!! I had a problem with pickups, but now everything is ok. I had to change polarisation in one of t...
