Hmm, I tend to agree with Ned. If it were me I'd go for the first one with "plenty of dings & dongs" ... I had a long chat with an old Japanese player collector/dealer (over far too many beers & glases of Saki) a few years ago, & he imparted some priceless words of wisdom he'd picked up over decades...

Bill, you seem very sure. How do you know that one is Sen? American & European Ash (of which there are numerous species) typically has a wide & wild grain pattern with a series of wavy curves, however, it can show, & frequently does show, a completely different grain pattern of tight straight paral...

(snip) The Japanese Ash (?Sen?) usually has that tighter less dramatic grain compared to US Ash, but otherwise I think it?s virtually identical (inc. tone), though I?m not sure if that one is Ash or Alder ? pretty nice colour/finish though (snip) Iit's Sen, the Alder ones were mainly (all?) made in...

http://www.ishibashi-music.com/ I've also dealt with both Noriko & Koichi at Ishibashi, & look forward to doing so again. 8) (Wasn't aware they were Tokai Dealers, actually). Koichi (who speaks the better English of the two as far as I could tell) gave me a good discount on their already cheap pric...

Sorry you missed it Clay, but on the other hand if it were me I'd go for one from, say 78 to around 1981/2, Tokai's "golden years". I've had my LS-60 from '81 for about 18 months now, love playing out with it, has incredible tone. It's nicer than all the new Standards & even the couple of Historics ...

Hi ranjam Are you aware of Wagner pickups? http://www.crcoils.com Lots of pro players over at the Gear Page forum, the Axe House etc. are raving about these, espescially the new "Darkburst" set - like a cross between his Crossroads & Goodwoods. People are even swapping-out not only Gibson p'ups but ...

H iLasher,

I seem to remember 'Sisters Of Sharon' finally threw the towel in quite a while back.

I'm pretty sure that it's the same Chris who runs "Shazza Music" (shazza@hkstar.com) & is singer in a band called "Thinking Out Loud" now, her website is here: -

Hi japscot, Congrats on your "inheritance"! Your webcam pics are, erm, a litle 'hazy' (!) but your guitar looks rather similar to mine ( - maybe they're twins?)... http://homepage.mac.com/cybercat/.Pictures/temp/Tok2.JPG More pics on my homepage ("new pics") here: - http://homepage.mac.com/cybercat/...

snip is there an optimum amount of vinegar? snip Is there a way of identifying Nobels pots? snip unlike Eric Morcombe, I can't see the join! :) 1) I think the instructions I found on the net were vague but said "a tbsp" - which I took to be a tablespoon full - but bear in mind American English "tab...

Real 80's Tokai neck?

My friend Bob has been holding out for ages to get a really good early Tokai neck (originally to go with a genuine '65 Strat body) to build his "dream" Strat. Due to this experienced & seemingly highly reputable (1783 feedback, 99.6% positive) seller's glowing comments, he bought this neck at quite ...

Odd. My tokai had bog standard 'made in japan' pots (like arthur's) and the ls320 uses CTS. Seems hard to believe they'd use better pots on their mid range models. The "bog standard' ones in Arthur's pics are the Nobels, excellent! I agree it seems very strange if they use CTS on the LS320, though ...
