My 1981 LS-150 has an upgrade by these guys, RS Guitarworks, & it is the best-sounding Lester I've ever heard. http://www.rsguitarworks.net/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=42&Itemid=48 Very highly thought of in the industry - & they get Chicago Telephone Supply (aka CTS) and Hovland to...

Re: Help with headstocks

(snip) i'd just like to know the best way of removing love rock headstock decals...(snip) They aren't decals. The word "Tokai" is inlaid into the wood using mother-of pearl (...or mother-of-toilet-seat, depending on model & year) :o ...and the "Love Rock model" is silk-screened on with gold-leaf pa...

On my ST-60 (1980) the original (Gotoh?) block is already steel, so no need for replacement. On my ST-80 (also 1980) the block and top-plate is one complete die-cast unit made of Zamak, so my luthier friend Simon Pinder is installing a Callaham block and top-plate. (Zamak, often called "pot metal" o...

Hi kmarccoco, Very nice, if you like lime green writing! - wonder if they do a cherry pink one too? http://homepage.mac.com/cybercat/.Pictures/Fuzzy/limetokaidecal.jpg My friend got a couple of these "NOS" decals (haha!) off eBay & is understandably not happy that they are fruit-coloured. :( We'd pr...

Having tried many brands including Lindy Fralin, Duncan, DiMarzio, Gibson, Fender etc., I most definitely way prefer WCR pickups by Jim Wagner. Very friendly guy, easy to talk to on the phone & genuinely concerned with getting you the right set for the guitar & style(s) of music you play. WCR p'ups ...

Hi Shinjiro, The way I've always understood it, serial numbers of guitars of this era (around 1978 - 1982?) seem unrelated to whether the guitar is a Springy, Breezy or even Les Paul Reborn, Love Rock etc. The initial number, as you stated, should be the year. 2nd number always seems to be zero. The...

Hi Shinjiro, - sure, glad to, it's 0010550. Actually the seller kept saying it was "1979, stroke 80" when I was negotiating to buy (took 3 attempts over several months before he finally sold it to me), but with the "001...." beginning of the serial number, I just assumed it was from 1980, ...so mayb...

Dunno if this helps, I suppose if enough of us chime in, patterns may begin to emerge... My ST-60 is from 1980 and has a one-piece body, very thin polyurethane finish (2-colour sunburst), V - p'ups (stored safely as I'm using WCRs in it ), U-shaped neck, rosewood board with skunk-stripe, and "60" st...

Re: Pickups of LS-1000?

+1 for WCR p'ups. I pulled a very nice set of Fralins OUT of my LS-150 & put in a set of WCR 'Darkbursts" - tonal heaven! ( - but I left IN the full RS Guitarworks wiring, capacitors etc. that Roy at RS had fitted, that also makes a difference). Which Bareknuckles or WCR would you recommend for whic...
