'The original 57 through 60 Les Paul is the most sought after solid body Electric guitar because It was the magic combination of woods, Electronics, Desighn finish etc. ' mmm..... I always thought it was because Eric Clapton used one on the Beano album? Seems to me SRV managed quite well without tha...

Anyone interested in DSP solution? Had an idea for a small DSP that would fit in a normal guitar that would model different pick ups. One guitar - loads of pickups - no grief! Note: this is pick up modelling not guitar modelling (line6) - as such the basic tone of your instrument remains untouched. ...

WHAT! A whole tone thread and I never got to post on it damn and tarnation! I have decided that great tone resides mostly in the upper frequencies - almost sounds like noise, makes a kind of swushy sound is quite complex and therfore pleasing to the ear. I have heard this tone on all the greats so i...

Nice one Barry! So can you give us a fair comparison between the older specced Tokais and newer ones like your recently sold relic? I'd be really interested in your opinion as to how Tokai quality has progressed. cheers GB p.s. you'll have to change that name again now that you've got rid of the LR ;)

Yeah well he might but I tend to agree with him - not that I'm biased or obsessed or anything :o

Love rock through my valve amp = the most cranked tone from my amp ever!

Didn't even require 14 guage strings

Modelling and that tone thing again

A little bit of truth about modelling creeps out from VHT: Using digital modelling is inadequate, according to VHT's Steve Fryette, because of, "the limited capacity of the microprocessor, which puts a ceiling on the depth and complexity of the model." He could also have added that the level of comp...

Good shops bad shops, I don't think it's fair to tar all shops with the same brush, I've got 3 in my area: One is the old style dig around in dusty corners to find a bargain. One is a high end only guitar shop. One is the newer 'mail order' style. The new one is where you get the bad attitude stuff ...

aye and there's also the inverse which is that most programmers aren't musicians. How do you tell someone who can't hear the subtleties about good tone? One of my favourite tones that I've never head modelled is Paul kossof's amp wound up so much that although clean the cab resonates with his vibrat...

The ultimate TONE guitar?

From reading lots of articles in mags, received wisdom from other guitarists and raw market forces, the best guitar for 'TONE' appears to have at least the following characteristics: Solid Mahogany body Solid Mahogany set neck Brazillian Rosewood fretboard Maple Top Seth Lover PAF's Now let's have a...

Tone is subjective ?? I don't know is it? Is EVH's tone subjective ? I don't think so, I think most guitarists can recognise good tone and as such the difference between good and bad tone it is quantifiable. The fact that the tone is very complex and not easy to recreate is why we have the problems ...

There are some very good technical reasons as to why modelling amps don't cut the mustard, most to do with the complexity of the transfer function of an amp (the whole thing cab included). Modelling on that scale is really hard so the designers make big compromises so don't expect a true to life mod...

Having been inspired by this welcome return of 'Tru' metal my blues band have now vowed to rock the f*** out of the stage at every opportunity. Unfortunatley most of the pubs we play don't have stages but when we find one that does ......... Oh and those boys down at the mental hospital had better h...
