Last Call... Folks, I've just posted the sixth and hopefully final version of the article up on the page: http://burningpine.com/TokaiForeword.aspx . It contains just a few tweaks from the previous version and, in the absence of any feedback to the contrary, I am proposing that this is the final ver...

With regards to Goldie St 60s ,an awful lot of them were fitted with Es not Vs. Hi Gabe, just to be clear, the E stamped puckups were made with the "Alnico V" alloy (as opposed to the earlier alloy, Alnico III (I think)), so in this context E is V. Do you mean, "E's not U's" rather than "E's not V'...

One other query, following the updates from Peter Mac, in both tables I have references to Ash bodies but one reference (from my original) to Sen Ash. We should be consistent and my understanding is that all of Tokai's Ash bodies were actually Sen Ash (which is not a true Ash but related to Ivy (of ...

Trying to close down the Silver Star debate, I have extended the table to refer to both versions of the SS60 with some notes to explain. I'd be grateful if some knowledgable folks could review and comment. A couple of points: First, I guessed at the pickup types for the flat pole-piece SS60s. Can so...

Just a few queries on the Silver Star table. I need to defer to you guys on this. I can profess to knowing a little about Springy Sounds; I know nothing about Silver Stars. From reading the other threads, Mike, it seems that you know a fair bit about these. Would it be reasonable for you and Peter ...

All, I have just posted what I think should be the final version of the intro onto my site at: http://burningpine.com/TokaiForeword.aspx . This version includes some updates and edits from Peter Mac including the table for Silver Stars (many thanks Peter, that saved me several hours). As ever, let m...

Hi All, version 3 of the Intro is now up on my page for feedback: http://burningpine.com/TokaiForeword.aspx Mike, you were right about the opening line - i wasn't happy with it and your comment convinced me to re-write. I have added in the feedback from above and extended the Springy/Goldstar table....

I've just updated the draft in light of feedback received and the update is in the same place: http://burningpine.com/TokaiForeword.aspx . I have included a table with the Springy/Goldstar models but (as above) think we also need a similar table for Silver Stars to complete the picture. As before, l...

Springys, much the same as Goldstars ST40 - non-Kluson type tuners, ceramic pickups, 3 or maybe 4 piece body ST50 - Kluson type tuners, 'U' stamped alnico pickups, 2 or 3 piece body ST60 - as ST50 with (normally) 'E' stamped alnico pickups, pickups, 2 piece body Ash (Sen) on sunburst finishes ST80 ...

You are being logical - Tokai weren't. Most (as far I can tell) RW ST80s have a V neck. Mine does. Strange, wrong, but true. Since mine has a sen body, it is more like a 57 Strat with a RW cap board than it is like a '64 Strat. Like a freak early trial of rosewood at Fender in 1957. Wow! You'...

I would be very cautious of this project growing into something huge and undeliverable but, of course, the other thing which users want is a guide to dating their guitars. I started to build a spreadsheet with the variations at one point but it is - as you all know better than me - a vast and comple...

Thanks for the feedback Mike. I'm happy to look at how to chunk this down. However, that raises a question of design lay-out as I think the rest of the book is intended to be double-page spreads: how would several shorter pieces of text be incorporated? Let's debate with Iain and then I can get my v...
