OK, so the flamed Sycamore laminate is a paper-thin veneer that the finish is applied to? I am immensly pleased with how this guitar sounds! Acoustically it is very vibrant. This Tokai sounds a LOT better than my Gibson LP Classic. :o Thanks all for your input. Anyone want to buy a Gibson LP Classic...

My son also wants an SG. I told him that he'd have to learn to play the guitar first.

You may need a small truss rod adjustment (loosen it a bit). This will give the neck a little more bow, and may aleviate your fret buzz.

I'm not saying this WILL fix it, but it's the first place I'd go to fix fret buzz.

I've heard from a good buddy of mine that Bumble Bees/Vitamin Q's give a bit darker tone, whereas Orange Drops brighten it up a bit (all else being equal). I don't think this is true. Tone caps are there to remove parts of your signal, not process it, so there's no way they could make things bright...

If you are refering to the earlier thread with the "first tokai....." we need to know what model it is, as it could be Maple solid top or Sycamore laminate with a maple top beneath it. Defenately not spruce!! Have a look at a dreadnought guitar, good quality Fiddle or mandolin top, they have spruce...

Maple? or Spruce?

You guys know the '99 LS-70 I just got... All the information I've read about the guitar says it's a Spruce top, but it has some wicked flame. I've heard that Spruce doesn't flame. So, do I have a Flame Maple top? Or, a Spruce top w/ "photo flame"? Or do I have it all wrong? It sounds fantastic, tho...

I'd highly recommend changing the pots/caps.

I've heard from a good buddy of mine that Bumble Bees/Vitamin Q's give a bit darker tone, whereas Orange Drops brighten it up a bit (all else being equal).

I use Vitamin Q's in my LP's.

Re: Proud New BreezySound Owner!

After a few years watching and waiting I finally managed to find myself a BreezySound at a reasonable price ($NZ450). As far as I can make out form the registry info here I'm pretty sure it's an 84 model based on the number (L298438) and the headstock logo (pictured below). The only problem is that...

The flame/plain top? yeah, I agree...while not common nowadays, I've seen a few vintage LPs the same way. Personally, I like the way it looks on this guitar. It gives it it's own unique "personality".

Very nice! Tobacco 'burst? Love that zebra!! The p/g looks lighter than the pup rings. Is it so? Or just the photo? I swapped out my p/g for an Allparts one. It's darker than the stock one and matched better. For the photos, try using a flash or open the curtains in the room to get more ambient ligh...

tudor wrote:Do you hear a difference in tone after changing bridge an tailpiece ??
It arrived with the tailpiece on already. I did change out the heavier stock tailpiece on my Gibson LP Classic for a Gotoh aluminum one and it is brighter.
