"Sycamore" is "Maple".

Don't feel that your guitar is superior/inferior just because it's made of sycamore/maple!

Sycamore is maple. Maple is sycamore. The more expensive Japanese guitars (Ibanez, Aria, Takamine, Epiphone etc.) tend not to use laminates as their "gardens" are full of real tree-wood. Even when I paid top-dollar for a U.S. Strat I found it to be laminated. The Japs bought up the mahogany and "map...

I have a 2001 MIJ Love Rock LS-65 and the finish is hard and lustrous. I suspect that like me, you believe that the "finish" can mute the dynamics and tone of a guitar. I'm happy to tell you that whatever our occidental friends have used, it works VERY well, sonically and aestheticaly. I'm sure I ma...

I don't like uncovered pickups, either - but SD "Pearly Gates" do the 'sound/sustain' thing for me. I wish I could get covers for them (my Tokai PAFII covers don't fit) but then maybe they wouldn't sound the way they do?

It's obviously a Gibson but some bright spark decided to forge the "Tokai" logo to give it some credibility. :0)

Poplar is a wonderful tone-wood for strats, but it's difficult to finish and its light weight can make it vulnerable to acoustic-type feedback. Some people like that, though!

Skybone - your latency shouldn't be more than 12ms and the Delta is happy at 4ms. If you decide to update your drivers be VERY thorough in deleting stuff like "Delta.inf" BEFORE re-installing as the uninstall routine doesn't work.

Maybe I was lucky with my 2001 Japanese LS-65. I replaced the Tokais PAFIIs with Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" and noticed very little difference "live" (unless you take into account my bank balance - ?80 EACH for the Seymours in the UK!) and no difference in "recorded" sound. The Tokias are slightl...

Gibson is ripping us off precisely because "it is a company with 100 years of experience, a solid reputation and a list of famous users long enough etc., etc". Like one of the previous posters I'm also a lifelong "Strat" player but was horrified when I discovered that my new USA Standard Strat (?560...
