Veneers

I happened by PJ Walkers guitar shop in Portsmouth on the day he was unpacking three new Tokai Love Rocks (MIJ). I'd just successfully sued my previous employer for unfair dismissal and my bank balance was unnecesarilly bloated. I'd made up my mind to get the real deal - a Gibson Les Paul. After try...

Nice guitar...

But it's not an LS-65. My LS-65 is a veneer-free Cherry Sunburst maple cap with hat-box knobs. The LS-70s are flamed maple top (gorgeous looking but veneered) and the LS-75s are a quilted maple top (fantastic looking but veneered). I think this range of guitars (LS-60-65-70) are recent Japanese mode...

Japanese 2001 LS-65 (no veneers!) Cherry Sunburst Les Paul Standard replica, absolutely gorgeous and mint condition with Hiscox hard case. Wife forces sale (guitar quota exceeded) ?495, no offers, unless it's a drop-dead gorgeous Telecaster swap. I'll explain it away with "I've had it for ages" like...

ESP? A bit like Tokai, really - you can be pretty sure that it's more like the real thing than the "new" things.

luis, like me you're "tone-wood" aware and I had a Casio midi guitar that was made of bass-wood and it was a DOG. Very dull and unresponsive. The Burns is made from Korean Basswood and grade "A" ebony (fretboard) and has ceramic Trisonics. YUCK!! One or two of my prejudices have been destroyed by th...

Brian May could probably make a Futurama (remember them?) sound like a Red Special. I bought it (cash) without haggling or trying it through an amplifier, to the surprise of the spotty salesman. I have to admit to not particularly liking the wiring/switching - (I must find a way of getting series AN...

Anyone tried one of these yet?? It's so responsive and inspiring to play. I knew I'd find a guitar one day that would give me all the things I love about Fenders and Gibsons all in one package, plus plus plus. I played at a school reunion bash last week-end (Singapore 1965/8) and there were guitars ...

I replied to your earlier message but confirm it here. If you like Love Rocks you'll love mine - no Epiphoney headstock or "cut off" cutaway. I bought the Tokai for ?599 last July with a Hiscox fitted case thrown in. I bought a pair of Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" zebras at the same time as I was t...

I have a Tokai LS-65 Love Rock 2001 model (Japan) and it's gorgeous but I don't play it much since I bought my Burns BHM.

I'm looking for a Telecaster, I'll send more details (photos etc) if you're interested.

Phone (01962) 779726 or e-mail nakamichi@lineone.net.

Mint condition, not gigged - I only regret it didn't bring back my lost youth! ?650 (GBP). You'll understand why I won't accept offers...e-mail me ...

Would these anonymous posters be from Fender or Gibson owners, do you think?? It seems to me that most Tokai owners either have or have owned Gibson/Fenders and are in quite a good position to make comparisons. You have to feel sorry for "Anonymous" as he's obviously never had the pleasure of owning...

Hi Peter, It's not the three chords you know, it's how you play 'em! Thanks for the info about the veneers - given the scarcity of the flamed maple I guess there's not a lot of choice but to use veneers. I'm glad I bought the LS-65 now - I loved the look of the LS-75 (quilted maple) but from what yo...

Come on guys - argue a bit! I didn't mean to stop the thread. I warn you though, I'm powerfully built (like my Tokai).
