The pickguard itself doesn't affect the tone at all on a Les Paul.
What it does affect is the angle of your pick attack.

You're able to get your picking hand fingers down onto the guitar or grippe ...

I have seen the auctions on ebay and reverb, but as far as I have noticed they are all unmodified SE600J's with mint-ish or at least good condition when looking at the lacquer ...

First place you want to look are prior auctions of them on eBay and Reverb. Quick glance told me that they range from $599 - $800

Thanks, I also decided to wire the bottom tone knob/pot to the bridge pu and no tone for the middle pu, I like it better that way.

Jimmie Vaughan style. I too like my tone on the bridge pic ...
