Re: Combat Custom Guitars Les Paul Model

Yeah; it's a cracker all right. Gotta love that top color; reminds me of the early 80s LS-200 top color. It's on Digimart.

If I didn't have so many LPs around I would consider a purchase but I don't need another Lester.

Re: Opinions on this ST60 ?

if you like the maple neck (I prefer rosewood 'board) then it looks OK to me. since it is an early Goldstar it is a shame the seller didn't get detailed shots of the saddles & the trem block. it may have the (old) zinc block from the Springy era; it may have the steel block from the Goldstar era. Di...

Re: African Mahogany, Honduras Mahogany or Mahogany

I agree with HAMAMATSU; the info seems a bit backward since Honduran is typically more co$tly than African. I would recommend asking Tokai if you could see photos of the body blank lumber & also obtain correct/accurate weights for them. This could help you to pick a lighter, or heavier body & also i...

Re: Bacchus BLS-DX ? (Quilt top BLS model)

Hi wulfman, That is a nice one you spotted there. That looks like it could be from the BLS-59 era; I would say circa 2004/2005. Why? The stop tail looks to be nearly flush with the maple top, which indicates the BLS-59 era recessed stud anchor set-up. I agree with your idea about Deviser creating 'c...

Re: Bacchus BLS-DX ? (Quilt top BLS model)

as usual I was doing more digging on the INTERWEBZ today & I came up with a surprise. https://www.digimart.net/cat01/shop5134/DS04845208/ This example (101711) is certainly outside of the serial number range that I have listed in the OP but (1) the top is quilt maple (2) the fingerboard looks like M...

Re: I 'laughed out loud' when I saw this Greco listed on Reverb

Interesting theory you have there wulfman. It seems that the Z Dry prototype was 'completed' during the summer of 1979. The A stamp on the PU-2 pickups did start showing up within a very short time frame after this development. I assume production examples of Z Dry would have to be manufactured betw...

Re: I 'laughed out loud' when I saw this Greco listed on Reverb

Did some more digging around on the interwebz and located a couple of interesting things. Here is a link that shows what look to be a set of PU-2 pickups with the three screw mounts. https://japtone.com/en/tienda/maxon-en/maxon-pu-2-pickups-1980-alnico-5/?lang=en These are coded 190910 = September 1...

Here's the neck pickup from my set Like I said I bought this set 10 years ago from a Japanese guitar dealer. I've never had reason before to think they were anything but genuine. I have an all original SA-1200 also fitted with dry z and these ones are certainly comparable Big Tone, Thanks for posti...

Trolling? LOL. Thanks for the laugh; I feel younger again. As some of us know, all things MIJ are not as easy to decipher as we would all like them to be. Case in point: There was at one time the commonly held belief that the vintage Tokai LS-120 examples were solid flame tops. There are threads her...

Yes, I LOL. I find humor in just about everything. In all the years I have been reading about MIJ pickups I have yet to see anyone mention what the A stamp on the PU-2 bases actually relates to, if anything. Maybe they are Dry A pickups; worth five times more than the fabled & hyped Dry Z. I s...

What was your 1st Guitar?

My first guitar was a 'no brand' nylon string classical guitar purchased NEW, for me, when I was eight, maybe nine years old. The guitar had the typical double slotted peg head that classical guitars have, the neck was so thick I could barely wrap my hand around the neck to fret a single note, and t...
