Re the tuners - it's work to replace them with anything, easiest is to use the schaller that was used on the higher model SS's. You can use the Kluson's you mentioned, it's the same work as using Fenders... I've changed a few from Trap to Fenders - some details here; http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewto...

I don't know why anyone would think painting a Fender style guitar neck a solid colour, especially black would be an upgrade. If you upgrade a 36 (as the base model SS was pre *about '82) or a 38 (as the base model was *about post '82), by 10,000 yen - the the sticker would say 46 or 48.
