Impossible to tell if this is even a real Tokai from these 4 photos.... So my advice would be, stay away from the deal until getting more detailed pictures from the seller or inspecting the guitar in person. There should be production code stamps in the control cavity, in the neck or bridge pickup r...

Nice mint example of a Super Real TL-800. If you prefer U-shaped necks you could keep your eyes open for a late 1981 or early 1982 TL-800. They changed the specs a bit on those and went from V-Neck to U-Neck. Different Bridge pickup and tuners as well. Staggered polepieces on bridge pickup and 8mm h...

How do you know if you have DiMarzio VS1? I have a strat (st-100) coming in a few days. I hear the E series sound good and I also hear they sound bad. I was thinking about swamping them for Fralin hot PUs. Well, a vintage ST-100 is a great thing! Why not try how it sounds with the stock pickups bef...

Re: Help identifying Springy Sound
Hi All, - I was under the impression that the neck on a maple board should have been a V profile, but it's more of a fat C or U shape. Definitely not a V. - The pickguard is a WBW 11 hole, and I would have expected a maple board guitar to come with a single ply 8 hole pickguard. - the neck and body...

It was supposed that for pre Super Real era strats that "SUPER SOUND" was used for SE600 to SE800, and in the catalog for 1980, the only guitar with that logo is the SE600. So I was misguided here. The small headstock strats for the pre Super Real era all have the Super Sound / handcrafted logo. It...

Very interesting guitar. That?s SE-380 specs all the way. If you look at a few 380s from 1980-1982 they all have that routing (because of the S3 pickup cables which attach to the side of the bobbins and not to the middle) as well as those pickups, tuners and unstamped saddles. (1980-82 SE-500 and up...

That?s an odd one. All parts appear to be Tokai-made. Tuners on the neck are SS-36 / SS-40 style. SS-48 and up had Schaller-style tuners at that time. I can?t make out a model stamp on the fretboard on any of the photos. It should be there for that year, can be very faint though, but I don?t think i...
