Re: Please help me !

These look like they were Korean built...Agile maybe?
They've got a similar headstock and stumpy lower bout.
This wasn't the Canadian Tokai site from the 80's was it :p

Re: Tokai Les Paul Custom MIJ?

That one is made by Fujigen. Very high quality. I'd hit that one over the other two myself. So how do you reckon that Fujigen Gaki built a guitar for Tokai? I have many Tokai and many Fujigen guitars (Aria...Greco etc) Feel free to point out how Fujigen EVER built guitars for Tokai. Tokai built for...

Re: 'Profile' Les Paul copy (possibly 70s or 80s?)

Sadly there's nothing in the pics that really pins down the builder :( As mentioned there is a lot of info regarding the Profile Fender style guitars but zero on the Les Pauls. They DID make bolt on LP copies and they're easier to pin down compared to the set necks. It DOES look like a solid cap to ...

Re: This place used to be buzzing...

I'm baaaack....I'll get the buzz going again. :P I think that there is less confusion over whether or not a particular Tokai is genuine..mostly because there are just so many of them out in the market these days. My break from here was enforced...but I'm back for now. I've mostly been focused on Ide...

1974 Diplomat SG

Hi all, This is my 1974 Diplomat SG. Built by Fujigen under consignment from Matsumoku....so it has Fujigen traits AND Matsumoku traits. It did my head in trying to track down the builder. https://i.ibb.co/z619j43/front.jpg https://i.ibb.co/j68VL9M/20191226-213249.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Y7TGn33/back.j...

Re: Who made this guitar/factory wise ???

Chushin might be a good fit.
That Diamond inlay definitely isn't Tokai:

Compared to yours you can see that they're different.
Unusual not to have JAPAN stamped on the pots if they're original.

Re: Is this a Japanese Tokai?

I believe it's a MiC John Sykes model and rather overpriced.

Re: Please help me !

So because the LesPaul forum says it's legit...it must be legit?
I stand by my statement....it's not a tokai...100%.

1974 Diplomat

I figured that some people might like to see a recent find. A 1974 Diplomat SG. Fujigen build for Matsumoku. When Mats were snowed under they would outsource to Fujigen....that's one reason that you see guitars like this with ALL the Greco/Ibanez/Aria features but the Fijigen neck plates. This guit...

Re: Tokai TGC identification

I've been seeing these "TGC" inlayed guitars popping up a lot lately.
They are 100% Chinese but unsure as to whether they are 100% Tokai.
Will contact Tokai and find out if this is a thing or not :)

Hi I guess :)

Hi people.... I was on these forums from 2000 til around 2010. I won't go into my forced absence here but needless to say from reading the forums there is a desperate need for knowledge. I know what I know...don't profess to be an "expert" but i may be able to help with identifying LEGITIMATE Tokai ...

Re: Tokai Les Paul Custom MIJ?

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. It seems that this may be a Korean or Chinese model and in which case it seems GC is definitely overpricing it. I will try and get the serial without driving out. I saw another Custom, which was a Burny and it is priced about the same on Craig's list. The ...
