Re: Help Wanted: Searching for a Tokai

Hello Everyone, I am a long time lurker looking for a little help navigating Tokai's dizzying array of models. I did own a Tokai Custom (1985? and no idea on the model) about 15 years ago. I sold it as it was not as nice as my other guitars. I am looking to pick up another Tokai and could use a han...

Re: I finally became a very unhappy Tokai owner.

Youre taking off pickups just to look for flaws! Sell the guitar, you're never going to be happy with it. Just to clarify, I removed the pickups to check if they were branded Gotoh or if they something else, I was curious. It was interesting as they are described as Tokai products therefore I wonde...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

8) gibson 1957 les paul custom has a 1-piece mahogany body so yours should have it too if its a good copy of it like the one jimmy page played. the kurosawa original description says so but yours looks to have a 2-piece mahogany body like LS235 , the japanese premium class les paul custom with the ...

Re: How do the pickup selector and knobs work on Tokai 3 HB guitars?

I don´t have that guitar but if it´s wired like a vintage SG Custom the controls are the same as in a vintage LP Custom, namely bridge and neck positions are "normal" (that means bridge and pickups only) while in the middle position bridge and middle pickups are in parallel. Middle and bridge pickup...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

Just sent the payment for this KLC345BB, shameful copy of a 1957 Custom with three pickups and Bibsgy B7: Hey Cuthbert, Remember that Gibson also make ' shameful ' copies of three pickup Customs too! The only difference is that their shameful copies have the same name on the headstock! If you read ...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

That's a really bad translation into English and doesn't make for another interpretation of any accuracy. Yesterday I wrote them to ask clarifications, they didn´t answer, but the description of the sister guitar has changed: https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/kurosawa-shop/item/10150202/ Today it...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

1 piece body never includes the top cap or veneer but refers to the main back body only. Ok how do you interpreter this statement? This in LS lineup Les Paul custom LC235 of the premium series of the highest peak to a base KLC345BB of the order model who gave upgrading everywhere. I adopt the ebony...

Yes i do. tokaigakki@hkg.odn.ne.jp Thank you, I will write them. Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

i just checked out my Tokai black custom out of curiosity and the inlays seem straight, mine however is a lower end MIJ 2011 LC with rosewood board. I also have a 2014 all hog WR LC136 that i won on a Japanese auction that i hope is a good one. It will be a few months before it gets home. Perhaps e...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

I can see how that might be pretty annoying. Hopefully the guitar sounds great and you'll hardly notice it in time. I am quite surprised as this is the top of the range Tokai (345.000 yen), they clearly spent a lot of time sourcing a Bibsgy, cutting a bone nut, finishing with nitro, getting ebony (...

Hi guys,

Tokai made entry level and high-end acoustics as Cats Eyes.
From 1974 they were building the CF Martin and Co acoustics and had access to the American lumber yards.
Interesting, for what I know they made Sigmas for Martin, I have never seen any made in Japan Martin guitar.

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

Is it just me, or maybe the picture is taken at just the right angle, but is the angle of the R0 headstock off kilter with the neck? No it´s a metter of perspective, that R0 is an excellent guitar with a killer flamed top that you can admire in this picture: https://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/attac...

Re: I finally became a more or less proud Tokai owner.

Dissapointed to hear that. This is one of the reasons I have not bought a new Tokai. I have heard from quite a few people that modern Tokai just does not have the quality of the 70, 80s and 90s. If I pay near Gibson prices for a copy, it better blow my mind on all levels. Sorry to hear that man. I ...
