Re: Purchasing New Direct from Tokai - Suggestions/Recommendations

Tokai does sell direct. I have ordered 6 or so guitars direct from them. I live in America and they ship to me. Except for the Gibson type guitars which they cannot sell direct to the USA (Gibson lawsuit from the 80s). For those I have gotten them sent to a relative in another country then forwarded...

Re: Reborn old LS80 question

I have 2 ls-80s from 1981 both have single ring tuners. I thought the double ring tuners were pre 1979 or maybe 1980 when they did the stamp on the 22nd fret or whatever fret it was. I am sure Tokai might have had a excess of double ring tuners that they may have randomly used on post 1979 guitars. ...

Re: Is this a real Tokai?

I have ordered three custom guitars from Tokai before. Direct from Shohei Adachi. I get the guitars really custom when I order them. Like abalone or MOP inlays. Special types of wood etc. Is there a difference with that (semi-ordered model, made by the tokai custom system. around 2014) and these: ht...

Is this a real Tokai?

I have never seen anything like this before. With the "tokai gakki co ltd" stamp on the guitar. https://auctions.c.yimg.jp/images.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/image/dr000/auc0103/users/0/2/1/6/hirotepopon-img1200x900-1584976904rvigkg8128.jpg This is very strange. Have any of you guys seen a tokai like this ...

Re: Should i buy this tokai

That one is really had to tell. It could be a ss36r to a ss60r guitar. All the parts have been changed on it. Tuners, pickups. So I cannot really tell beyond that. It has a skunk strip rosewood neck. Which with Tokai is pretty normal. Not sure it this is a giveaway or if that is just the way they di...

Re: Is this Tokai African Mahogany?

It is a one piece back with a solid top (NOT veneer) and lacquer finish. Also, it does not have the pickguard drilled.

Re: Should i buy this tokai

The 1981 Tokai will be better than the Mex fender. Here is some info on the SilverStar Tokai line (below). Do you know anymore details about the guitar? Is it 3 or 4 piece back 2 piece do you have any pics? Can you see what type of tuners it has? CBS, schaller, kulson type etc. Then you could narrow...

Is this 2014 Tokai African Mahogany? I own a lot of Tokai and other Mahogany Les Pauls and this one looks very different the wood I mean. Right click on the image then "View Image" to really zoom into them. The very 1st picture is the one that makes me this it is African. I have no other African Mah...

Re: Shiiping guitar from Australia to USA

Thanks for the info. Tokai does a fantastic job packing the guitars they ship. They double box them. Plus it will be in a hardcase inside the 2 boxes. I had one guitar sent from Australia to the USA before. I cannot remember how it was shipped though. But it was reasonable. So, I guess the local pos...

Re: Shiiping guitar from Australia to USA

My Wife's parents live in Australia. So that is the go between. I have had tokai ship my 4 guitars directly. They have no problem with shipping me Fender or PRS type guitars. The lawsuit in the 80s or attempted lawsuit. I am not 100% certain how that played out. Anyways, Tokai cannot ship Gibson typ...

Shiiping guitar from Australia to USA

I have a Tokai guitar coming to Australia in a few months (probably May 2020 or so). It is coming directly from Tokai. They cannot ship their guitars to USA because of the Gibson thing. Anyways, I know there a several guys from Australia here. What is the best way to ship from Australia to USA? It i...

Re: Looking to have pickups filled and p90 routed

I heard the same thing about Greg and headstock repairs. I have a Navigator Explorer that had some head problems. Not broken but not perfect. I had some guy fix it and re-paint the neck but he really messed up the paint job. It is a really great guitar and I might send that to Greg when I get the p9...

Re: Tokai Explorer

Post some pics when you can. I have always wanted a Tokai Explorer. There was a perfect one a few years ago but I did not buy it. I had a Gibson one 2003 or so. Biggest POS guitar I have ever had. I bought a Navigator a year ago or so. A custom black one with white binding. That guitar is something ...

Re: Looking to have pickups filled and p90 routed

So, I shipped the guitar off the the guy doing the conversion. Here is a white LP he did the conversion for. He has done hundreds of the HB to p90 conversions. https://www.facebook.com/pg/BCR-Music-Sound-176454402425822/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1142975042440415 His wait time is several months. I w...
