Thanks! That's useful to know. I guess there can't be many of those 84 TES in Europe, because I've never seen any for sale.....

History of Tokai ES Series guitars?

Can anyone educate me on the Tokai ES (MIJ) series of guitars? In particular: - What year were they first made (1981?) - For how long were they made in the 1980s? I see 1981 and 1982 ES100s on the internet, but I don't seem to see any for any other years in the 1980s. Was production stopped? - If pr...

I will try to get a photo next time I am at home. In the meantime, I suppose I should clarify. When I say 'heel cap', I mean an extra piece of wood "spliced" onto the heel, like this (not my guitar): https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--YphLewxT--/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_prog...

Heel cap on Tokai MIJ guitars?

As noted in another thread, I recently purchased a 2005 ES 130 (MIJ), which is lovely in every way. One thing that has surprised me (and I didn't notice at first) is that it has a heel cap on the otherwise one-piece neck. It's not really an issue - it surely has no influence on tone or playability (...

New guitar - Tokai ES 130

OK, after a lot of searching, I finally managed to get myself a MIJ Tokai ES335 copy. It's a 2005 ES 130, in red. I've owned many guitars over the years and, so far, this is the 'nicest'. The previous owner has really taken care of it, and it looks pretty close to brand new. Fit and finish is superb...

By the way, I just had a look at the photos and that looks to be an EXCEPTIONAL instrument. I doubt there are many around that are so beautiful. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks - they look nice, but I think I prefer the more "Gibson 335-accurate" nature of the Tokai 335 copies....

WTB - MIJ 335 Copy (UK)

Does anyone want to sell a MIJ 335 copy, probably one of the Tokai ES/UES series guitars?

I'm in the UK, so realistically probably looking for UK or EU sellers only.

Tokai Chinese ES 68 vs Japanese?

I have recently purchased a new Chinese ES 68 (a newer model designation number for the ES 60, so the same guitar) in cherry red. It's superb. Just a shade over 8 lb, the finish is near-perfect, frets are great, the humbuckers sound perfectly good to me and I can't see myself replacing them, tuners ...

Can anyone give info on the UES 60 / UES 68? Neck profile?

I'm sorely tempted to buy a Chinese Tokai UES 60 or UES 68. The UES 68s can be had for a very good price right now for what look to be really beautiful Gibson 335 clones. However, I'd have to purchase by mail order sight unseen, and I can't really find any reviews online that covers what I think is ...

UES 60 - stock pickups and hardware

I'd like to buy a Gibson ES335 style guitar, and am currently looking at Tokais. If I hang on for a second hand model, I could probably afford a UES 130 here in the UK. However, if I buy new, I could get a UES 60 AND a Mexican Fender Tele (another guitar I'm planning on buying). What I wanted to che...
