Re: Tokai Goldstar Made in Japan no serial number

Good morning, I recently purchased a Tokai Goldstar AST 50 guitar. There was no serial or the writing made in Japan. By sending the photos to the Tokai support, they confirmed to me that this is a production of the year 2000 made in Japan but released without a serial or written Made in Japan. I ha...

Re: Authenticity

Thanks Again. The seller told me it’s genuine. came in a Yamaha case and a receipt inside looks like 6000 yen. Just want to be sure I have a fender strat mim water slide headstock and I have doubts as to its authenticity or it’s just pieced together. The "50" decal is typical for an ST-50 model, if...

Re: Authenticity

Thank You Javelin for reply. UnFortunately I see that anybody can buy A Tokai waterslide decal for the headstock. I did not see a stamp on the fretboard near the 21st fret. Would the springy sound 50 have a stamp there or would it be on the neck or not at all ? all I see is a 50 decal Near heel joi...

Just bought a Tokai, hoping it is genuine ? Sent an email to japan, shopped online and got a guitar with a water slide headstock decal, posing pics. Any advice ?
It should be a waterslide decal just like the old Fenders had.

Re: Authenticity

Ok, to me everything looks ok, very early '78, serial on the neck heel (first digit looks like an eight) - no serial on the neck plate. Electronics look ok. Since it seems to be a very early Springy I wouldn't worry to much about the markings on the body. I have an '82 Springy - it's built exactly l...

Re: Authenticity

I'll have a look in Peter Mac's Tokai book and see what it says about the early Springy's. If it has the narrow neck plate it's definitely an early Springy.

Sorry to bother you Mike. Can I just ask if your tokai has 11 screws attaching the scratch plate or 8?

Thanks

Raver
It has 8 screws since it's a 50's model with a mapleneck. The rosewood (60's) models usually have 11 screws.

Re: Can you help?

I asked Him to put more photos up and he has. :) It looks like my 2001 AST50 except that mine has a one piece mapleneck. The tone and sustain is excellent on my guitar, at least as good as my springy and older goldstars. It's also very well built. The switch is crap through as mentioned before. And...

Re: Can you help?

It's hard to tell from the pictures. If it's japanese it should have a 7,25" fretboard radius. I have an AST50 from 2001, it does not have any serial number at all and no made in Japan text. They also used a crappy plastic YM-50 switch (same as Ibanez) on those strats. The korean AST33's of that per...

Re: Opinions on this ST60 ?

if you like the maple neck (I prefer rosewood 'board) then it looks OK to me. since it is an early Goldstar it is a shame the seller didn't get detailed shots of the saddles & the trem block. it may have the (old) zinc block from the Springy era; it may have the steel block from the Goldstar era. D...

In Sweden you actually got a case with most Tokais in the 80's (don't know about the cheapest models). With the JSX-70 I bought in -86 I got the cloth tweed case. The TLS-50 I bought in -84 came with the black Tokai LP case and the TST-50 bought in -85 came with the nylon tweed case.
