    1981 Tokai LS-80 - SOLD pending payment

Yeah, I hear ya. I thought this guitar was going to sell the instant I posted it. Anyway, a good player locally just played the guitar and fell totally in love with it. In his words "it the best Les Paul I have ever played" and "I have to have this guitar" So It is finally SOLD pending...

    1981 Tokai LS-80 - SOLD pending payment

Interesting, as the economy didn't really change much at all here in Canada. I have tried to sell it here locally, but no one around seems to know the value of these older Tokais, and they expect to get it for the price of a Korean model. Alan, if/when you come over here, send me an email...

    1981 Tokai LS-80 - SOLD pending payment

I must admit I am surprised there is so little interest in this guitar. I know very little about the Japanese made Tokais (and others), but when I was thinking of purchasing this guitar, everyone here and at the Les Paul forums told me it was a great guitar and great buy and that I should grab...

    1981 Tokai LS-80 - SOLD pending payment

I convinced them at the PO to let me weigh the guitar there. It weighs in at 4.037 kg or 8.90 lbs :)

    1981 Tokai LS-80 - SOLD pending payment

You guys may remember me asking for your advice on this purchase a few months back. It is a great guitar, and one of the better LP's I have played over the years. I hate to sell it already, but after 40+ years as a Strat player, I am finding that I am just not playing the LP in the band at all...

    1981 LS-80

As an update to this post, I used the guitar tonight with the band for the first time, and WOW, do these new pups ever sound better. It was hard to define the differences when just playing all alone, but with the band the tone is now much more refined and cuts through and mixes better. The...

    1981 LS-80

The pics were taken outdoors in sunlight with my wife hand holding the guitar. I used a Nikkor 300 f/4 afs with a Nikon D300 camera. The original pots were linear taper, which IMO are horrible in guitars. I have no idea why companies put them in guitars. Basically, the volume on 1.5 was about...

    1981 LS-80

I finally received the new pots and pups for my LS-80. Thought I would post a couple of pics of the guitar with the new Sheptone PAF's. The pickups sound great and I really wanted an LP with covers on the pups. So the mods I just made were: - new Faber Tone Lock bridge - swapped out the stock...

    '81 LS120

I think you are missing my point though. It doesn't matter what decade they were building the guitars in. If they were seriously trying to make an exact replica of a 59 Les Paul, a 59 Les Paul came with covers on the pups; as did all Les Pauls of that era. I understand the attraction for some...

    '81 LS120

I never said people did not remove the covers, rather that Clapton's guitar in that photo would have come stock with covers. I was playng professionally back then, and the main reason people took the covers off was because they thought it looked cool. I even did it myself, but then I realized I...

What I don't understand is if Tokai were so caught up in making exact replicas of the older Les Pauls, then why did they not at least include pickup covers and leave it up to the buyer if they wanted to remove them?

Will these pots fit in 81 Love Rock?

Thanks very much for confirming that Mick. I will order those Alpha pots tomorrow. :) With regards to the caps, in all my 43 years of playing I have never noticed any differences between various caps, but then I have never gone out of my way to pay more for special ones. I did talk to a couple...

Will these pots fit in 81 Love Rock?

Hmmm, I guess I'll just have to order them and hope that they fit through the holes. I don't mind changing things on the guitar (i.e. pups, electronics, etc.) that can be swapped back to original, but I really do not want to change things (i.e. make holes bigger) that are irreversible changes...

    LS-80 - what's up with the wiring ?

Unfortunately those guys are total crooks. After waiting many months for my parts from them, I eventually had to go to the Canadian Better Business Bureau to final resolve my issues with them. They still never got me my parts, but did finally refund my money. Besides, they have no stock at all...
