Tokai goldstar sound 1984 nut question

AFAIK, all the Tokai vintage Fender copes are 7.25 radius. My 1980 Springy is 7.25.

Book, Tokai The Vintage Years 1977-1986

I’d also be very interested in some form of this book, and PM’ed Peter directly.

    ST70 "Rare Model"

That is one absolutely stunning guitar!!! I didn’t realize that Tokai ever used figured maple on their necks. I actually think that maybe the luthier was referring to Birdseye maple being inherently unstable by its grain pattern. When I bought my Sadowsky Strat in 1989, Roger told me that he...

    ST70 "Rare Model"

The benefits of the cap could well make sense, Sigmania. Presumably the cap stabilizes the neck to prevent the torsioning and subsequent twisting as the wood drys and matures. I was talking guitars last week with the luthier at a fairly high end local guitar shop, and he warned me that highly...

    ST70 Springy in Metallic Green

I always see that the Japanese listings on eBay or Reverb have virtually no description or assessment whatsoever of the guitar's condition. Is there a cultural or business reason for this, and how does a buyer such as yourself get an idea as to condition? Do you also need a shipping...

    ST70 "Rare Model"

That new green one is a real beauty, Sigmania! How did you find it? Imported from Japan?

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

I know what you mean about tech specs. The only reason I remotely know them at all has been the need to find out what a guitar selling online might feel like. I had always bought my guitars in person with private sellers, or in stores, where I could feel and see how I match with that particular...

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

Wow! It was hard to get past my initial absolute awe that you have such amazing examples of the Holy Grails/Unicorns of Tokai guitar models!!! What beauties!! Do you mind if I ask where in the world did you find these rare models? Japanese auctions? The boards appears to look a bit flatter than...

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

I know exactly what you mean about hearing (or not) tone, Sigmania. Years of blasting amps in small music practice rooms in college and after did a real number on my hearing, as did age (68). I have Fralin Vintage Hots in both of my guitars, but their construction is so different from each other...

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

My Japanese language skills are as non-existent as my knowledge of vintage Tokai neck types, but I can certainly use Google translate and can see the sketches of the 4 types. Thank you very much for sending these in to me!!

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

After doing a deep dive into the discussions about fingerboard woods related to feel and tone, I’ve answered my own question somewhat. The strong consensus seems to be that the differences in both tone and feel are minuscule, and much, much less than most of us have been led to believe. I still...

Advice Needed: I Want a Different Tokai Strat From Mine

Hi, I would love some advice from you guys. I'm quite new to posting on this forum, and have found the info you all share a total godsend about Tokais! I have a really nice maple board 1980 Springy ST-50 w. Med-Jumbo frets and Fralins that I am just not bonding with, and I think that it's the...

WTB: 80's Tokai Strat w Rosewood FB

Hi, I'm looking for a nice vintage (80's) Tokai Strat (TST, AST, Springy, Goldstar). Refretted is fine, as I ultimately want to put in Medium Jumbo frets. Pickups also don't matter, as I will put in Fralins from another guitar. I am in the New York area, USA. Thanks!
