Drilled badly. I take it they never thought of using a pilot drill or tape to stop tear-out. Hey, everyone has a bad day at work or we've all come across that one guy who was just hopeless at everything but the management felt sorry for him. 😕

Thanks for this reply. Excellent post. From what i've read here and elsewhere in the past few days it appears Fernandes was aiming to draw in the LP/Humbucker fans with the 22frets and meatier L5992T pickups in their Strats long before Fender even thought about it. Which I find pretty awesome.

Here's a 77 spaghetti logo with the same hole and signs of indentations. Who manufactured those? 1977 Fernandes FST Burny Olds Stratocaster - Spaghetti Logo - Lawsuit Era - Video | Reverb UK Also a 1983 fst-120 with same. https://reverb.com/uk/item/58777313-fernandes-fst-120-2h-1983-white...

First we would need to know exactly how many factories Fernandes sub contracted to. For all we know some could have been subbed out to some smaller guitar builders as a favour or to keep up with orders. Remember 1980-81 was another transitional period In the world of guitars. Metal was...

We've kinda established it a Kawai-built FST-60 BYS from 1980. The hanger hole in the neck pocket is the Kawai giveaway. The rest is pretty obvious from the lengthy post translated from the catologue by Sigmania on the first page.

Same hole and 4 impressions yet a different control cavity route. Mine is angled whereas the other runs in a straight line. I wonder if this body with the straight control cavity was for a Jeff beck model. It would make sense as the 3 micro switches were running that way above and in line with...

Yeah, That's what they were aiming for. I'm kind of a purist when it comes to strat sounds. I Love SRV. If I want humbuckers I'll grab my Greco LP for that. Nice tool to have in the armory though when you don't want to be dragging too many expensive guitars around. Now i want one. 😂

Just listened to it again. Doesn't sound too bad the second time around. 😀 I think they were aiming for a Humbucker-type boost in a single coil. Best of both worlds for those who like Humbuckers i suppose.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the one with the 3 wires and push-pull switches was for an extra wind that would brighten or boost the pickup. I watched a video of someone using the push-pull with the extra winds. Sounded terrible to these old ears. This one.

I spent around an hour reading that last night. Thanks. Interesting read. This is not my first Fernandes. I've had a few Tokai Revival Basses in the past. This one just had me stumped.

I cant read Japanese. I missed out on the bit about the pegs. So the consensus is it's a Matsumoku-made 1980 fst60 bys What does BYS stand for... Brown/black Yellow Sunburst?

yeah, On the 65t other than the wiring which I believe has been done later, I would say it's definitely from the same factory. You can see the exact same four depressions surrounding the hole in the neck pocket of the 65t that shows up on mine also. Also, the original shielding is the same...
