    One sad Tokai Strat Story

I came across an old ST-50 ( '83 ) that had similiar things done. It had 3 non original pickups with a humbucker in the bridge position ( a old PAF Gibson, now that's good one !). I put in a set of Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's and a new pickguard. It's one of my favorite guitars. Don't despair...

    could it be a tokai??

I've got a pre '82 TST 40 that has the " economy " Gotoh tuners ( no markings ), and grey fiber bobbin pickups w/ no stamp! If you are familiar w/ Tokais, you'll know what it is when you feel the neck.

    Tokai Pickups

Thanks Mike! It's a Goldstar 40, it had the budget Gotohs that I replaced with vintage style tuners. I replaced the " mess " of pickups with Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's - sounds excellant. These old Tokais are great instruments!!!

    Tokai Pickups

I have overhauled a really abused pre 1983 TST 40( at least thats's what I believe it is ! ) It came with a flimsy single ply pickguard and 3 mismatched pickups. One is a grey fiber bobbin - waxed - with no stamp. I'm pretty sure that one is an original pickup. One is a 1983 Gibson humbucker...

    goldstarsound pick-up question

Bingo!!! That's my tuners - exact match - Thanks Mike! Mine must be a TST - 40. I'm keeping the originals of course, but have installed a set of vintage Kluson style tuners. As I said, the two remaining single coil pickups sound good, but there were no markings of any kind. One was a grey...

    goldstarsound pick-up question

As I read your posts you mention several times " budget " or cheap Gotoh tuners. Can anyone post a picture of these? I have just bought a Goldstar TST ( have no idea which model ), the sticker is long gone but it has " TOKAI " stamped saddles and a L***** number on the neckplate. The pickguard...

    Help ! Rewiring a TST...

I am getting ready to rewire a early 80's TST Goldstar to restore it to as close to it's original state as possible. I am installing Fender Fat 50's pickups, 3 - CTS 250k Audio tapered pots, a 5 way switch and a .047 orange ceramic cap. My question is what gauge wire should I use? I see...

    ID -ing Tokai TST

I would love to post some pics if I knew how, I have a digital camera but I've never done it ! I am very dubious about the electronics. Everything is mounted on a flimsy single ply pickguard. Did Tokai use a single ply? There is one grey and one black pickup with no markings. The poles do not...

    Change pots?

Hello! I just purchased what I believed was an '83 TST. Most of the original hardware is there, The body and neck are beautiful, but I believe someone pulled the old switcheroo on the pickguard, PU's and pots. Anyway, I'm trying to replace the electronics with the best I can find. Were all 3...

    ID -ing Tokai TST

I have recently purchased a Tokai TST off of ebay. I believed this to be an '83 model but now, I'm not so sure. The neck has the " mutant headstock " for export and is lableded Goldstar with the " oldies but goodies " decal and stuff. It also has the L****** serial number on the neck plate...
