Alright mate, how's tricks? I do regret selling that one, but it looks like it's found a seriously good home! Bet it does sound fantastic with those Mules in, the Emerald's sounded awesome in "Bluey". Only get chance to play very, very infrequently now... too much other stuff to do! :roll...

FOR SALE: 1999 LS70F & BKP Emerald Set

Up for grabs: 1999 Tokai Love Rock LS70F (MIJ): 2 piece (close grained) mahogany back, 2 piece maple cap with a flame sycamore veneer & thin cream binding (including in the cutaway), mahogany '59 style neck, with correct 17 deg headstock angle & "open book" style headstock with replacement...

    Klusons

A lot depends on which model Love Rock and what style tuners you want to replace them with. If your Gotoh's are the "plastic tulip" buttoned variety, then a set of Gotoh SD90's are the OEM tuners, and fit straight on without any messing around. In fact, any Gotoh/MIJ/MIK/MIE/MIC tuners should...

    Marshall JCM800

Had a single channel 50w 2x12 (4104?) for a while, nice sounding amp, but needed a lot of maintenance. When it had just been serviced, it sounded sweet as anything, but after a couple of months, the overall output level would drop off slightly, and continue to drop over the period of a few...

    Pickups in YOUR Tokai's?

Had a 1980 LS60 for a while, that I'd installed a pair of Bare Knuckle Emerald pickups into. When I sold the LS60, the original pickups went back in and the Emerald's went into my '99 LS70. They're still in there quite a few years later, so they must be good!

    Technical Question Re: Speakers

It'll also depend on the actual wattage of the cab too. Generally, most cabs are fairly "robust" in terms of their power handling capabilities, most 4x12 cabs are designed to handle 100w heads, so that the sum of all 4 speakers will be greater than the power they need to handle. For example, 4...

    headstock angle

AFAIK, all Tokai MIJ are 17/18 deg pitch headstocks.

The (ever lasting) question about upgrades

+2 The Gotoh mkII PAF's are great, toneful pickups, that really capture that PAF-tone. Much better than most other mass manufactured pickups. If you do want to replace them, try and find some hand wound pickups, they really are the best thing you can put in your guitar. Tuners wise, the...

    Tokai vs Edwards

I'm amazed no one has picked up on this one... Tokai Love Rock's have long tenon neck joints, and Gotoh hardware (including their great PAF's). OK, so they use rosewood boards and have maple tops instead of mahogany... Hey ho. IMO FWIW Seymour Duncan pickups are highly overrated...

    pickups on Tokai ls85

Like Ozeshin said, PAF's & P90's are chalk & cheese... P90's are single coil pickups, commonly referred to as "soapbars" (because they resembled bars of soap). Prior to 1957, when the PAF's became the standard pickup, P90's were used in all Gibson electric guitars, and have been used in...

    Bare knuckle pickups.

Hey MV, I've got sets of Bare Knuckle Pickups in most of my guitars, including my trusty old LS70F, and they're frankly superb. :) I prefer the Hot PAF type like you mentioned, but wanted a more mid-biased sound, so I opted for a set of Black Dogs (8.5 & 10k) to replace the SD 59 & JB that I'd...
