Agree with the above. If you’re that obsessed with the smaller details, go with a Japanese made. Tokai is one of the few non-Gibson manufacturers that also get the horn bevels correct.
What brand pickups? I believe the LS120 and up came with Dimarzio PAFs. My ‘81 LS120 had Dimarzio stock.
Not sure about the LS100, but LS80 and below came with Gotoh pickups.
The pickups in my ‘81 ES-100J look like Emiel’s. White hookup and silver base plates. I plan on swapping them for some Throbaks. If I get to it sooner than later, I can measure the stock pickups. I did swap the magnets to UOA5, which I’m assuming will affect the DCR.
I have a ‘81 J. Not sure the pickups are stock. There was some tomfoolery with the harness. I swapped the magnets to UOA5. The high end with the original magnets was pretty harsh and the pickups were a bit thin.
My neck is narrower at the nut and slimmer than my LS120, which is a touch slimmer...
Just stumbled onto this thread! I am the previous owner. Guitar was sold to me from Russia and described as a 2001 Handmade. Seller did not disclose the neck reset or crack. If you google 2001 Bacchus Handmade SG, the Reverb listing that I purchased the guitar, from should pop up.
I did try to...
A used Crews Maniac Sound KTR is also a great value. I have a 2012 plaintop Standard that I purchased for $1400 plus shipping. Neck is 30 year air dried mahogany. Rest of the woods are newer growth. Very light and resonant guitar. Excellent hardware, full nitro finish and amazing pickups. I play...
Original poster says the hardware was upgraded. Are the pickups original? Can we see shots of the pickup control cavity? Is the finish poly or nitro? Use a little acetone in one of the pickup cavities to see if it removes any finish.
L8001 pickups were only used very early on. They weren’t around in the mid 80s and early 90s Burny Guitars. More likely a VH4 or a 2nd version VH1, which are different from the original VH1. I’ve had a couple Burnys with the brass bottom plate and grey wire. Nothing to write home about.
I believe those truss rod covers were used late 80s/early 90s. Pickups could be the 2nd version VH-1 or VH4. I’ve never been a fan of the Burny Pickups. Never tried the earlier VH1 or L-8001 pickups, but never cared for the stock mid 80s through early 90s pickups. Then again, never tried them...
I have a BSG Handmade Classic Series that is one of my favorite guitars. Original pickups were pretty bad. The guitar itself is super resonant and light and sounds “old”. I replaced pickups with Rewind Low Wind. As good as my Gibson and 80s Tokai Guitars.

Guitar arrived. Damage is worse than I thought...crack wraps around the back of the headstock. Headstock wasn't broken off and repair seems stable.
Sounds and plays beautifully though! Pickups sound fantastic! Haven't pulled them to see what they are yet, but they sound much more open and...
