Vintage Tokai LP's with slim '60's necks?

I have an '84 ALS60 flametop with an extremely thin neck, very 60-ish. That (and the weight 7 1/2 lbs!) are what struck me the first time I picked it up, brand new in the shop. It's quite thin at the nut and goes to a wide/flat profile at the twelfth, kind of like a 60's 335 feel. I used to...

Identifying and questions re: Tokai Love Rock

Michaeld, your Tokai is an ALS 60, not an 80. 100% guaranteed. Nothing wrong with that though. Play it and love it like I love mine :D

    1985 LS150

Rgafend, that's a colour that was used in the mid-eighties. Tokai called it VC for Vintage Cherry. I have an '84 LS60 in VC - it's identical to yours.

    Tokai Love Rock possible 1985?

That is a sweet looking axe. For what you paid, I'd be tempted to have the cherry burst refinished to a faded ice tea colour, but that's just my personal preference. The finish would be poly, not nitro, practically indestructable, hence the shiney new look (I reliced mine - got tired of the...

    Tokai Love Rock possible 1985?

Hi Gary, Glad you got the guitar, those pickups are probably worth what you paid. I'm not any kind of an authority, so I really hope the experts will weigh in with the suble nuances. I'm sure there's a difference in the 85 and 95 serial number, and it may even be posted somewhere here buried...

    Tokai Love Rock possible 1985?

The serial number seems to indicate it is an '85, and the dimpled headstock and "arrow" truss rod cover are correct for that date. I think this is maybe the last year they were readily available in the States. It sounds like an LS50 - or ALS as they were designated then - judging from the...

    Knobs for Tokai Love Rock

I replaced the dark amber knobs on my '84 Love Rock with Allparts ones, and they fit on no problem. The price was right too - about $10 a set of four. I went with the gold ones and aged them. It turned out beautifully and much nicer than the dark ones.

    How did you discover Tokai?

I first come across Tokai around 1987. Way back in the sixties when I was just a pup, I had owned a sunburst '59 Les Paul, sold it in the seventies (yeah, I know  ) and when I began playing again, I wanted a Les Paul but didn't like what they had morphed into. Around that time I was...

    BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS

Cleaning it would be a travesty. It's darn near perfect the way it is. OK, maybe you can change the strings.

hello there, could someone tell me what guitar i have?

The mahogony on that is gorgeous! If it's a Tokai, the build quality will definitely be there; it just needs some tweaking on the electronics side.

    Tokai case $306.50 ???

They probably are from the "U.K. Tokai Distributor", but are they Tokai cases? I strongly doubt it. A single neck support? - not interested. Check out the official Tokai ones in the back of the catalogues in the Registry. The LP180 for 18000 yen, whatever that comes to. It looks like they...

    Tokai case $306.50 ???

Tokai makes (or at least supplies) some of the best cases on the market; if you've got a Les Paul-type guitar, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. Don't know if I'd pay that much, but if I needed one, I'd be sorely tempted. The cases are shown as a separate item in the back of the...

    My LS-145S GT has arrived

Gotta love those Tokai fretboards! My Gibson should have one half so nice. And those inlays are exceptional. The mahogany back may not be the choicest slab Tokai ever used, but it looks one piece and has character. In fact the whole guitar looks like a keeper.
