PLEASE HELP----is this an old or new Tokai?

Mike's made a good point, the pics do seem to show TST[AST]56/62. However, there's this ancient thread just to add to the confusion: - http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1296&highlight=tst56

PLEASE HELP----is this an old or new Tokai?

Thanks for the information on where the serial number was stamped, now the bad news is that by the mid 80's this wasn't a mechanism for accurately dating a Tokai Goldstar, however it does mean that it's very unlikely to be a newer model as these didn't have anything stamped on the neckplate...

PLEASE HELP----is this an old or new Tokai?

Hi and welcome to the forum. It would greatly assist the regular contributors if you added your location to your profile. This is because, if my understanding of these things is correct the modified headstock's were introduced into the US way before they were introduced into Europe. So if...

    Any flags on this Goldstar?

I don't think it is an AST33, the string tree is by the K of Tokai rather than by the T, also the dot markers at the 12 fret are spaced differently than shown on a AST33 and the scratchplate screw by the switch seems to match the attached link to the AST70 rather than the AST33 below it. Let...

    Tokai Headstocks

A quick search did not uncover a great availability of the AST50, the AST33 [pointy headstock] seem to be more available. I thought that perhaps you were probably more interested in looking for LP's rather than Strat's

    Tokai Headstocks

:o ..... it was suggested I had been slow on the uptake on these as can be seen in the attached thread! http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=15925&highlight=

Metallic Pink Goldstar - but it's confusing me

Mike, Thanks for posting that photo, that block looks fairly solid. On a separate matter could you please load up or pm your pot. wiring modification, the volume pot on my Goldie seems to have died so whilst the soldering iron is being used I thought I would try your modification. Thanks Nick

    Nice ST42 on ebay

Sorry, I was half asleep when I answered, though I do remember thinking it rather strange that you'd question marked togps name given your wealth of contributions, but I obviously wasn't thinking clearly.

Metallic Pink Goldstar - but it's confusing me

The '62 scratchplate I've got seems to be similar quality to the '64, just no brass plate :( If your Pink goldie was originally fitted with 'Deluxe' tuners would that not suggest that it was at least a ST50 (TST50 or whatever)? Did the ST45 have the steel trem block fitted as standard? I...

    Nice ST42 on ebay

Forum member and if I have got this right the importer & distributor of Tokai in Germany. I am sure I read that TOGPS has received permission from Peter Mac to include the Tokai historical information on his website. :P

Metallic Pink Goldstar - but it's confusing me

Mike, Haha  just what you would expect from Tokai....Tokailand where nothing is what it might at first appear. When I bought my IIV pickups it was as part of a loaded scratchplate, the pups were obviously Tokai, the switch was one of those nice ones and the pots were as I have seen many...
