Likely the seller describes the solid maple top as a "laminate" over the mahogany body which conjures the image of a veneer. It's hard to tell, and the description is confusing.... JC

hmmm--- Good Point about the neck joint overall quality being the major factor rather than tenon length.... however I thought the longer tenons may be an accurate indicator of an increase in overall quality of the instrument...
