Tokai 1978 Les Paul Reborn with Burstbuckers

    8) Nope, the guitar is still here. I am in no hurry, I just need to reduce my collection.

Tokai 1978 Les Paul Reborn with Burstbuckers

I am selling my very nice Tokai Les Paul Reborn (pre "Love Rock"). The guitar is in very good condition but has a few dings on the back of the neck and the frets show usage (not felt when playing). It comes with the original green Tokai case and with the Burstbuckers 2&3 from my Gibson 68CA...

1982 Tokai Love Rock Neck Tenon?

They do as long as they get away with it.

1982 Tokai Love Rock Neck Tenon?

My 78 Reborn has - I think - the same tenon as most Tokais. It's the "intermediate" or "modified long" tenon, similar to the one Gibson used in the 70s. It goes to the end of the fretboard and has a firm rectangular fit in the neck pocket. It is shorter than the historic tenon which goes under...

Gibson LP vs Tokai Love Rock

My '78 Reborn has a similar neck to the Gibson Standard '50s or the '59 Reissue.

    Les Paul Reborn

Hm, I guess the PTP wiring was done when the H?ussels were installed. What's strange: I think they didn't use veneer tops in the '70s when the real Reborns were made...?! Neck cavity and control cavity look like on my 78, but I have shielding paint in the control cavity. My switch is different...

    Les Paul Reborn

I modded my Gibson for '50s wiring as well. You lose less treble when you roll back the volume. Besides, a PCB in a classic looking guitar is just *yuck*

    Les Paul Reborn

These are 22 Nanofarad capacitors, typical for a Les Paul. Without pictures we can not be sure about your guitar. But I bet that you have a 1978 Les Paul Reborn, due to legal reasons, Tokai would not have used the Les Paul name again. Look at the pictures of my Reborn, maybe you can make...

    shielding in control cavity

    Yes, that's shielding.

I just bought a guitar I've never even touched.

Update (I hope I am not boring you): Still in tune today  My Burstbucker 2 sounds so phantastic, it dwarfed the SD 59. So today I repaired the Burstbucker 3. I simply put a new shielded 4-wire cable on it (for future coil splitting/serial/parallel switching) and everything works now -...

You should touch my old Tokai tuners. They wobble and they rotate with no resistance.

Paladin, the nut is not the problem, the strings did not get stuck and "sprang" to a new pitch during bending and stuff. It's just the Tokai (it says "Tokai" on the back) tuners were _v_e_r_y_ lose and turning much too easily. Tonight I put the Gotohs on and everything is fine...

AFAIK the Darkbursts are for Duane's Hot 'Lanta sound, which had overwound pickups. The Crossroads and Fillmore are more conservative PAF replicas.

I want that sound  Well, I modded my 68CA with old NOS caps and 50s wiring which gives me much more room on the volume pots without losing too much treble. Turning down to 7-9 cleans up the sound without mud. On the Tokai so far I think the pots work very well, better than on a stock...

Get the Wagner Darkbursts. Or the Goodwoods even!
