How and where try tokai guitars?

I've actually got a soft spot for the burstbuckers... then again not enough to leave em in anything I got hold of :) But you're right, the MKII's are pretty good for standard issue pups, but the ones in my love rock were just lacking in character or definition for my ears.

How and where try tokai guitars?

As one of those people who bought a Tokai blind (gold korean made explorer) I'm with those above who wouldn't think twice about it... although I'm not so sure about the chinese made ones. The Japanese ones are most definitely the ones to go for if you have the budget. The key word with Tokais...

Any good suggestions for modding a Tokai LS-230

Change what ever you feel like changing dude. Personally I wouldn't bother with the Buzz Feiten system. You shouldn't need to upgrade the bridge, as mentioned above. I never quite understood why you'd put locking tuners on a fixed bridge, although string changes should be easier I suppose. I'm...

    New Tokai! Model? Fakai?

AS mentioned above those internals look standard tokai 80/90 to me. But those gibson pickups probably make it a bargain as they could fetch you good money if you sell em, they'd most definitely cost good money to buy new. Looks a nice guitar though.

    1980 LS200 $4000+ and growing!

I will admit that I'm not the worlds biggest fan of old guitars, mainly due to the prices they command. That said a top notch 1980 LS200 for $6100 probably better value than you'd pay for a similar vintage Gibson, if old is your thing. It is allot of money, but it's kinda mid range PRS cash so I...

    1980 LS200 $4000+ and growing!

My god that's over three and half grand in UK money... That would buy me one hell of a custom made guitar :)

    1980 LS200 $4000+ and growing!

That does look mighty fine, and those early eighties Tokais are the holy grail for some people. Still a darn site cheaper than an original '59 Gibson :)

Interested in a LS90Q. First time poster with questions.

I'll put my experience behind that statement. Great people to do business with.

    How much for pickups?

That's a tricky one. Second hand Seymour Duncan humbuckers tend to go for ?30-?40 each, but you get quite a few of those flying about so the prices are pretty stable. Personally I reckon ?10-?15 each at tops, but it's really down to how much you want them.

Any love for the Tokai MKIV and mkII PAF's?

I should really check on posts I've made more often :) Cheers all for your input. And thanks to all the 'just one link in the chain' and 'it's all in the fingers' type responses, very clever and all but not really answering the question :) I'll admit to being someone who starts hot rodding a...

Unless Ya don't like em :) Personally the ones I've had have been bland and characterless, but apparently not all MKII's are the same :)

    Tokai Explorer

The present MIK Tokai explorers are pretty good, but the necks are pretty clump for my hands. Old Ibanez Destroyer II's are good guitars but, in my opinion, fetch too much cash for what they are.

Any love for the Tokai MKIV and mkII PAF's?

I do love tokai guitars but I find the stock pups to be the weak link on the sub ?1K models. The MKIV's that were in my Explorer very dull and weedy (vastly improved with some A5 mags) and the MKII's in my love rock sounded not much better. I'd actually say it's one of the few areas Gibson have...

    Why the weight differences ??

Yep, that would do it. Although I've rarely seem them for sale and when they are the price is just a little too close to the real thing, or more to the point more than the second hand value of the real thing. If you can get a Tokai MIJ LP standard for ?600 why can't you get a Tokai PRS for...
