Cheers for the reply. Just out of interest, if yours wasn't dakota red, then what else would it be? Given that any decent approximation of fiesta red would be at least a touch on the pastel side be it pinky or orangy, I guess it has to be dakota if it's a strong red.

I have finished one or two flamed maple necks and some veneers and they are quite difficult because the open grained part (the darker stripes) of the flame absorbs much more lacquer than the pale more closed part. This means that you have to really almost fill the open grained flame with sealer...
