I've never seen anything like it and I've been looking at Tokais since 1982. I have 6 although I am no authority. I'm surprised nobody has chimed in.

I think Japanese and USA made guitars are different (and I believe this includes Fenders) but I have no idea why and exactly how. I am currently looking for a breezy scrathplate myself.
The stickers on the back look absolutely authentic Tokai fare and it's a ST-40 made in Japan. I am pretty sure this is not from the golden age of Tokai manufacture. I just bought a pre '85 Goldstar for ?270ish so you might be wise to wait. Others might be able to tell you more about the quality...
I came across them in my search - they certainly are an amazingly complete service! They look to be my best bet and are not far from me at all in SE London.
Many thanks

Hi all
I bought an 83 Breezy TE70 a few months back which unfortunately had a DiMarzio PAF installed in the middle position. I've bought a set of toneriders as I am really not happy with the orginal neck pickup and have now taken out all 3 pickups and replaced them with the toneriders.
So the...
Is there any palpable quality difference between an ST50 and a higher ST? I know the single piece of wood and nitro thing but what real difference does this make to the guitar? Please excuse my ignorance.
I just bought an '84 ST50 Goldstar for ?285 inc postage. I'd say that was a bargain...
Are 6 single saddles authentic? My very loose memory is saying that it should be 3 paired saddles. I think someone at the telcaster forum also insists that the 3 paired saddle bridge has better sustain whisch is logical but might be unfounded.
My '83 TTE-70 needs work but is easily as nice as...
You are quite the expert Otto! Apart from the contour is there a qualitative difference? Are some of your Tokais significantly better than others or are of similar quality? I find Fenders range quite significantly, or at least they certainly did when I was more into guitars in the late 70s/80s.
I remember Allbangs well. I think I bought it in a smallish shop in Romford but I could be completely wrong as I live nowhere near there; they just had the cheapest Tokai Strats at the time I wanted one.
How many Strats do you have Mike? it must be over 10! Is there one that stands out? I...
Yes it's a springy I bought for ?160 in '82/'83. I think I even have the receipt somewhere. It has a set of EMGs SAs not for the sound but I was gigging non-stop in the 80s and was sick of stage hum as my tones ranged from ultra clean and funky to Adrian Belew type mutilated but controlled...
