Thanks for the dating info, Barks. Based on the Registry, I assumed it was around a 1984. Didn't know about the brass grounding plate. Will have to try cleaning up the bridge - you did a great job on yours! Not sure if I can find a "green pan scoring pad" around here, but I'm sure there's a...

Thanks, Marcus. My first Goldie and it measures up every bit to what has been written on these pages and elsewhere about these excellent guitars. ****, Tokais are just great!

Recently acquired this gold star 50 on Yahoo Japan. Great guitar, and I just love the red body with maple neck configuration. Excuse the blurry iPhone pics.

    Mystery model: Tokai ES-1200

Well, I'm not sure if it is a misprint or not. Apparently Tokai was none too careful with the numbering of its guitars over the years ... If you want to see more comments from Registry members about my guitar, and some pics from a German Tokai catalog showing the guitar (or what appears to be...

Hi Mestari, nice guitar. I just happened to be looking through some older posts and saw yours. What a surprise to see that we seem to have similar guitars, except mine is an ES 120 from 1994. Same birdseye maple top, block inlays, amazing sound, etc. Some pics are available here...

when I lived in Tokyo, earthquakes on the Japanese scale of about 3 were fairly common, and I got used to them. We had one here of about 5.0 some 10 years ago, and I ran outside in my bare feet to watch the house shake. I absolutely cannot imagine what a 9 feels like ... and I never want to find...

haha, could happen, you never know ... So you were in the Tohoku area. Terrible thing. We weren't directly touched by it down here, but we've become a lot more jumpy at even small tremors. In Japan, you just never know where a big one could happen. Take it you were ok?

I know about Hard Off (man what a choice of names - my sister almost fell out of the car when she came here on a visit and saw the store sign), and Second Street. Don't know about the other one. Never been lucky to find anything resembling a playable guitar in antique shops, though I never give...

17 years in Ehime, 7 years in Tokyo before that. Your handle suggests you also live in Japan?
